Outer Karkebi

Outer Karkebi, is the lowland coastal region west of the Guidgen Mountain range.

What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting

  • The weather is very extreme, very hot and stormy in the summer and freezing in the winter, it is part of the Extreme Weather Zone due to how the fog pushes the currents
  • This means that life in Inner Karkebi is very different than Outer Karkebi, and they would be extremely distinct if not for the network of tunnels and railways that have been carved through the mountains by the ancient Deii
  • Due to the lack of comfortable hability, structures in Karkebi are built to last and into the landscape, something also seen in Eskern (despite the location gap), and most of the cities or large communities are further into the Guidgen Mountains

What’s the general “lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?

  • Research centres, fortresses, and professional courts are all built into the mountainsides
  • Large network of underground caves (and trains) which were originally used by the Deii’s ancestors. They are still finding them.
  • The beach is mostly barren aside from some heavily protected groups researching, and a few outlaw/Deii settlements who check for fish to wash up on the beach. At the Northernmost tip they have a proper trading post.

And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?

  • There are two seasons - hot/wet summer, and cold/dry winter. Significant amounts of species hibernate during the winter, and are the Locii in this area have shorter but more frequent hibernations because of this.
  • The storms are violent, with high tides, making the beach/strand area dangerous to wander unaccompanied.
  • It’s not humid enough in the winter to facilitate a lot of snow, but the waters will ice over and many plants go dormant or die.

What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?

  • A lot of species in this area are heavily influenced by the Saesonaid, so many are novel or endemic species who go extinct quickly. This makes the area a goldmine for palentologists and archaeologists who want to study extinct animals
  • The tundra lends itself to species like the hunting Kubeleya such as Dolomedes and Lycosids. Loci who can easily hibernate, as well as Deii
  • A lot of Ambrosii flock during the summer along with the Formicii to the area for the hot/wet season, acting as seasonal workers during times of harvest and fruitful work.

Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?

  • Novel and endemic species for research/study
  • Brine materials such as evaporite, salt, and lime, and lye
  • Saesonaid and other flesh oil remnants
  • The ability to transport goods quickly by train network
