Court of Brackish Waters

The Court Brackish Waters is a guild of skilled trades as well as an esoteric order, who have significant presences along the coasts. They are one of the largest merchant guilds as well as authorities on Brine, focused in particular on seawater and rock salt.

A brief description:

  • Merchant/Trade Guild
  • Training for Mastery of Brine using Rock Salt or Saltwater (incl. Initiation)
  • Research and development for salt and saltwater
  • Organizing coastal/idland-wide trade routes, particularly in Northern areas
  • A Governing Body for Lithomancy/chemosynthesis approved by the Clockmakers
  • Claim to be descended from the Sea Peoples, though a lot of that "written hsitory" is forgeries

Their public agenda (purpose, mission, aims)

  • Regulate trade and exchange rates across regions
  • Keep shallow waters safe (this is a slogan of theirs)
  • Train Lithomancy users in the mastery of salt and saltwater magic
  • Their program for mercantile training is the best
  • Keeper of Memories and Blessing for the Sea Peoples
  • Advise regions on proper trade protocol and diplomacy
  • Advocate for the safe and profitable harvesting of salt

Describe their visuals (flag, motto, uniform)

  • Motto - "Blessed from the Source"
  • Unofficial motto however is "glory to the Sea Peoples"
  • Their uniforms are fairly fancy, often sporting faux fur and leather, usually white with cold accents
  • The flag and crest seems to be "rebranded" every time there's a new leader or massive upheaval somewhere, raising some inconsistencies

Their secret agenda (if they have one)

  • They practice decimation somewhat, by sending that particular person out to sea to search for what is beyond the mist. Sometimes they get garbled messages back, so it's become a tradition now to sacrifice someone for that on certain occasions. It is pretty much an extreme form of sacrifice or divination
  • A lot of their stuff is forgeries or bootlegs, although they claim to be appraisers, they are often audited and found to be lying about the source or origins of certain materials. These people are subsequently bribed or blackmailed

Structure

There are two sides to the organization - the mercantile and the clergy. The mercantile side is structured like a trade - there are ranks from novice to master depending on your job class and experience. The clergy is structured like a secret order similar to Order of the Golden Dawn.

History

This is the northern equivalent to the Furybreaths of Sealtland, it is run by a Glendatis with a long life span. Rather than tunnels, they operate by sea and ocean exploration. This apparently started when a mysterious shipwreck appeared by the leader, Lear's, town and her apprentice Kalid was turned into a monster unlike she'd ever seen. This told her that there was something beyond the mist, and she started the guild to network and search for answers, whilst having a steady stream of income in different places.
