Weave Well

Weave Wells are places of great Arcane power where Major and Minor Arcane Ribbons overlap, creating localised areas within which Arcane magic has tangible form. Under normal circumstances, the Weave (both Arcane and Sylvan) is invisible, even when using a Detect Magic spell; only a Detect Latent Power spell (which is unique to certain schools of Magecraft and Witchcraft) can visualise latent magical energies such as Mana Pools or the Weave. However, when enough Arcane energy is allowed to gather in one place, it becomes visible to the naked eye, often as a glowing orb of violet energy. In this tangible form, the Weave becomes many times more potent, and has the ability to improve the efficacy of rituals and spells. Studies of the Wells have suggested that they have the capability of making a ritual that requires a hundred Mages to cast only require a single one.

The Sylvan Weave equivalent of a Weave Well is known as a Convergence, while the equivalent of an Arcane Ribbon is known as a Ley Line.

The largest Weave Wells in the world are located in Arcans (Madelya, Duraloth) and Caerdydd Newydd (Isle of Spires, Cnuic Ghlainne). These Wells are located directly opposite each other on a line of east to west in the Northern Hemisphere on a globe, as well as directly over the Northern Pole (and by extension, the Southern Pole), and are thought to be so placed to maintain a form of balance in the Weave. It is believed that there should be two similar Wells in the Southern Hemisphere, however as much of the Southern Hemisphere is now covered by water with many of the islands inaccessible for exploration, it is difficult to say for certain. It is also thought that there may be two additional Wells of this size located at the Poles, but again it is uncertain as to whether this is the case as it is difficult to explore the area.

After these two, some of the largest Weave Wells known to Sapientkind are located in Sempervirentis (Curtana, West Eirinn), Fort Grey (Aeldynsyre, The Silver Wastes), and Scholar's Shore (Luas, Karadal). Locations with Weave Wells are highly coveted by civilisations with high magical focus, and some have even become the subject of repeated conflict over the millenia. The most recent conflict of note was the War of Countless Faces, which was waged in Sempervirentis between 1445 to 1478.

Manifestation

Weave Wells often manifest as shifting, coalescing balls of vibrant violet to white energy that resembles plasma. Many of these Wells manifest at or slightly below sea level, meaning that some can naturally appear in caves within mountain ranges. Where a Weave Well manifests, it tends to warp and melt the natural environment around it, often creating what is known as a Well Cradle; an open space around the Weave Well within which the Well coalesces.

Localization

Weave Wells occur when multiple Arcane Ribbons, usually six minimum, meet. While most Weave Wells are quite small, those that occur when Major Arcane Ribbons cross can be very large. All Major Arcane Ribbons flow through at least one of the biggest Weave Wells in existence.
