The Fiendish Blood War

The Fiendish Blood War is an ongoing conflict between Devils and Demons that ebbs and flows in intensity depending on the whims of the Demon Princes and Devil Dukes. Since the Fracturing War culminated in the Splitting of Navia, the two sides have been at each others throats with battles springing up without warning, even in neutral territory such as Purgatorio. Nobody is truly sure why the war continues, as neither side is technically in a position to "win" and little to no territory is gained or lost by the conflicts that arise. It is thought that the Demons continue simply because it amuses them, while the Devils see it as "law" that they must engage to wipe out the chaotic forces.

It is also believed that if they wished it, Phosphoros Luciferus and Azazel could end the war with but a word; they simply don't. Additionally, Luciferus and Azazel have never engaged each other in fights to the death, nor have they ever personally given orders to eliminate each other. When the pair have engaged in combat, the affair has been violent, but never to the point where either one of them could die. Their battles usually result in Azazel getting bored or Luciferus being called to attend other duties; signaling that neither has any vested interest in the other's death. Some scholars suggest that this is because the pair are believed to be brothers, and that some kind of feeling of kinship prevents them from outright destroying each other.

Devils and Demons ultimately take part in the Blood War whether they understand why or not. They are natural foes in the same way that all Fiends are to Celestials, and even if a Fiend does not actively have any interest in the War, they will inevitably be dragged into the conflict if they ever encounter a member of the opposing side.
