Mil-Seillean-Sìthe
Honey from the Seillean-Sìthe, known in Common as Peace-Bee Honey or Fairy-Bee Honey and known for it's strong smell, is a rare and precious ingredient and food item that is coveted throughout Noble circles across A'arde.
Originally brought to the Material Plane from Tìr na Sìthe during the Age of Renewal, availability of Mil-Seillean-Sìthe dwindled after the Green Knight Massacre just before the Fall of the Age of Arcana, and never truly recovered. It is now only cultivated in one place on the Material Plane, the island of Aisling's Rest, which makes it incredibly rare, while imports from the Border-Fey and Tìr na Sìthe are rarer still.
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is most famous for its unusual smell; the scent of petrichor (the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil) combined with the sweetness of Honey Plums. The earthy scent of this honey is vastly different from other honeys, which tend toward sweet floral or green plantlike scents. While other honeys produce pungent smells, such as menthol, it is often considered a sign of spoiling if they produce too strong a scent. This is not the case for Mil-Seillean-Sìthe, as the scent becomes stronger the purer the honey is. Mil-Seillean-Sìthe with no scent at all is considered spoiled and loses its value.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is a thick, translucent, golden yellow liquid with a rainbow iridescence when moved in the light. It has a strong scent of petrichor and Honey Plum, which it is famous for, and has a sweet yet earthy taste.
Compounds
As with other types of honeys, Mil-Seillean-Sìthe can be used in cooking, as a topping for foods such as yoghurts and bread, and as a sweetener for hot drinks. It's unique smell and taste can transform the experience of food items, and as such any items made with or sweetened by it are considered High Class foods coveted by Aristocrats.
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is very rarely used in cosmetic items such as soap, shampoo and facial creams. When created, these items are prohibitively expensive, and thus only the richest in society can purchase them.
Geology & Geography
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe can be collected from the hives of the Seillean-Sìthe, which are found in Fey-touched meadowlands close to Honey Plum orchards. Within the Material Plane, there is only one known colony of Seilleanan-Sìthe, located on the island of Aisling's Rest in the Moontide Isles.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is most commonly used as a rare and precious food item amongst the Aristocratic echelons of society. It is considered a status symbol due to its rarity and cost.
A popular use amongst Nobility for Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is for a variant of Honey Bread called "Mil-Sìthe-Arain" (Fey Honey Bread made specifically with Mil-Seillean-Sìth) or as a substitute for regular honey in Honey Buns.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Mil-Seillean-Sìthe of all purities is considered a luxury item that symbolises wealth and status, as it is very rare and difficult to procure; therefore expensive. Nobles that are able to purchase this will often display it on the table when they have guests for breakfast, though it is rarely opened for said guests, unless they are of equal or higher status.
Storage
The majority of Mil-Seillean-Sìthe is typically stored in clear glass jars with waxed, corked lids or latched glass lids with fabric seals soaked in natural latex. It is generally recommended that it is stored in cool, dark conditions, but it is more resistant to spoiling than other types of honey and can often be left on display.
Some imports from Tìr na Sìthe store Mil-Seillean-Sìthe in specially treated ceramic jars, which are often decorated with beautiful paintings. While there is no noticeable difference in quality when stored in this manner, Honey in these jars is often coveted for aesthetic value and rarity.
Law & Regulation
There are no specific regulations on the use or distribution of Mil-Seillean-Sìthe. However, due to its value, attempting to sell fake Mil-Seillean-Sìthe can be met with harsh punishments, which range from imprisonment to amputation of a hand.
