Arcania

True A'arden Goddess of Arcane Magic, the Arcane Weave, and Weavecrafters

The Weavemistress; The Lady of Magic; The Matron of Arcana; Mother of Magic (a.k.a. Taika Caspian)

Arcania is the True A'arden Goddess of Arcane Magic, the Arcane Weave, and Weavecrafters, and the Prime Authority of all things Arcane within A'arde. She is responsible for the original construction of the Arcane Weave within the Material Plane of A'arde and now acts as its primary custodian, ensuring that it does not fracture and become destructive.

Beautiful and relatively straightforward, Arcania is considered one of the most upfront of the Deities in that she makes her expectations very clear with little room for interpretation. Some have called her blunt, as she has little time for flowery words, and she is also known to have an exceptionally high work ethic, meaning that she does not engage with those she considers lazy or exploitational. She is associated with and represents hard work, diligence, patience, power, responsibility, and balance, and is known as The Mother of Magic, being the Patron Deity of Eadar-Amail.

Many tales of Arcania refer to her as a diligent and patient mistress, but also harsh on those who disappoint her. Her greatest and most feared ability, Arcane Arrest, is a particularly horrific punishment or attack on spellcasters; descriptions of it are often used as a means to dissuade Weavecrafters from falling into habits or lifestyle choices that could potentially anger the Weavemistress.

Arcania has on occasion referred to Herself as a Network Specialist, which could potentially be a reference to her former occupation in life, when she was Mortal. However, She has never elaborated on this, even if directly asked by her Chosen.

Mirrors touched by Arcania will mist up with a pale purple hue, leaving g;yphs, symbols or single words unmisted. Eadar-Amail

It is common to offer prayers to Arcania during Eadar-Amail, even if one is not normally a follower or worshipper, as a show of thanks for Her service.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Arcania generally appears to Mortals as a ten-foot-tall woman (though her height can vary) of unearthly beauty, with pale purple skin and hair that shimmers in shades of purple, blue and white, reaching down to her thighs. Copper coloured markings make their way down the side of her face from under her eyes, with black lines curving over the top of them, while her eyes are brilliant violet in colour. Arcania has wings, however they appear to be made of pure Arcane energy, appearing translucent blue and white in form. Her hands and bare feet are always wreathed in blue and purple flames, representing the potentially volatile nature of the Weave.

Special abilities

Arcania is able to cast any spell she wishes using both the Arcane Weave and Her Divine Gift, making her one of the few entities known to utilise Arcana for Zoiurgy. She is also able to replicate any spell she sees immediately, even if the creating spellcaster has not mastered it themselves yet.

As the Goddess of Arcane Magic, Arcania is able to temporarily prevent Arcana energy and the Weave from operating within an area, using an ability known as Arcane Arrest. This completely removes all Arcana energy within the radius she designates, including that which has already been purified by a Mana System, preventing any spellcasting or replenishment of Mana reserves. She has complete control over this ability, and can determine whether its effects impact Purified Arcana (Mana within a Mana System), Raw Mana (the Weave), or both. This ability often leads to Pandunamostasis (Complete Mana Shutdown) within a living creature, which is capable of inflicting severe mental and physical trauma on the Material body.

Apparel & Accessories

The Mother of Magic is most often depicted or seen wearing a thin white dress tied with a pale blue rope-belt around the waist. She generally wears a copper circlet with purple and pale blue gemstones within.

Specialized Equipment

Arcania carries a copper-coloured staff with an eight-pointed star at the head, which bears blue and purple crystals at each of the points. This staff, known as Hailaana, is able to transform into a Morningstar upon Arcania's instruction, and she wields it in both staff and polearm forms with great mastery.

Social

Contacts & Relations

True A'arden Pantheon

Arcania has close ties to Silvanus, due to Him being another crafter of a Magical Weave, as well as Haul, Aaryav, Duvessa, Oron, Muse and Boone. She has passing interactions with Selene, but does not consider her to be one of her closest allies, and is also known to have occasional meetings with Ariyan and Shareen, though the purpose of these meetings is unknown. The Scribes are also considered her allies, though she has less contact with Ercan than Enoch and Bedisa.

The Weavemistress does not get on well with Fachnan, as she finds his chaotically wrathful nature to be antithetical to her desire for balance and order. She has also been known to butt heads with Ailastor and Medea, though will tolerate the latter's presence if considered necessary.

Other Pantheons

Arcania has close ties to the Draconic Pantheon through Xevahire- Xixellore, who assisted her in refining the Arcane Weave during the Age of Renewal, as well as with Arben-Ardian. She also has good relations with Gwynrhi Chrewyrellynhil ap Caradog and Brân Fendigaidd of the Elven Pantheon, Dagda of the Tuatha de Danann, Vilhelm Palle of the Dwarven Pantheon, Aurora the Dawnmaiden of the Bantamfolk Pantheon, and Aelfrun of the Orcish Pantheon. While She has cordial relations with Dolos Ghostcrafter of the Gnomish Pantheon, she finds his Portfolio of Deception to be a little uncomfortable.

Shae of the Unseelie Court within the Sylvan Pantheon is often at odds with Arcania due to her excessive use of Curses, likewise the Solitary Deity Gealachciara attracts Her ire because of her desire for vengeance. She dislikes Thywyll ferch Caradog of the Elven Pantheon due to her betrayal of Gwynrhi, but finds Cyfrinach Calonwyllt to be more annoying because of her dependence on Wild Magic, which often utilises Raw Arcana and Arcania considers to be disordered and dangerous.

Known Servants

In accordance with the Divisions of the Deities, as a Greater Deity, Arcania is served by the Lesser Deities Duvessa and Aaryav, with the latter being particularly devoted to her. She is also a known friend to the Satinka, Arcane Spirits that reside within the Arcane Weave itself and are utterly devoted to her.

Hobbies & Pets

Arcania is believed to have a pet cat named Alvyn, who is capable of speech and has the ability to change size at will, allowing Arcania to use him as a mount. Alvyn is said to have black fur that shimmers purple in the light, and vibrant blue eyes the colour of spring skies.
