A'arden Banshees

Fey Ban-Sìthe that travelled to the Material Plane of A'arde and set up home there after the Antimagic Curtains were pulled down are known as Material A'arden Banshees, or simply A'arden Banshees. This cultural diaspora occurred somewhere around the middle of the Age of Renewal in response to the True A'arden Deities bringing new Mortal Sapients to the world of A'arde. With the Sylvan Gods being heavily involved in the "re-seeding" efforts of the world at large, it was considered right that Clíodhna, the Banshee Queen, should send some of her "daughters" to fulfil their obligations in the new Material Plane.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Banshees are all female, but few ever reveal their names to those they encounter and they never reveal their True Name to anyone but Clíodhna. Those that have become known by a name often use Fey Sylvan names, or Commonised version of them.

These names include Ailis, Brìghde, Caitrìona, Èibhlin, Malamhìn, Oighrig, Sorcha, Teàrlag, and Ùna.

Family names

Banshees do not have family names, though all Banshees consider themselves daughters of Clíodhna the Banshee Queen, and may on occasion introduce themselves as such.

Other names

Most Banshees on the Material Plane will identify by some kind of moniker or title that identifies the area or family that they watch over, while others will identify by some kind of descriptor, such as "The Grey Lady". This is often in place of their Chosen Name or True Name, which they rarely reveal. Most Banshees do not care how they are addressed or identified, unless the name or moniker is a blatant insult.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Banshees typically speak Fey Sylvan and Common, but will also pick up local languages if they are more prominently spoken.

Culture and cultural heritage

Despite being limited in their connection to their Banshee sisters in Tìr na Sìthe, all A'arden Banshees acknowledge Clíodhna, the Sylvan Goddess of Death, Sorrow and Lamentation, as their Queen and "mother". To insult Clíodhna in front of a Banshee is to invite the Banshee's ire, and they will not easily let go of such a grudge.
