WorldEmber 2025

WorldEmber this year I will try to return to this world here, which I started in truth during the pandemic. Really the inciting incident was a single article, Village of Souls that I wrote for a flash challenge. Before that it was just a bunch of ideas and notes, but with the reaction I got on the article, I started to put in more though and started to flesh out an actual setting. Today there are 363 articles in the world, which is by far the most writing I have ever done on any single project.
Its gone a bit on the wayside as I got stuck on a few things and other projects took more of my time. I hope to return, because I do enjoy writing the articles in this world and expanding the lore and peoples in it.
That being said I will simply pledge to write the 10'000 words I have written during most Decembers since 2020.

Preparations

I've reread my Primer and found that it is still fitting for the world. There are still many things that I would like to add though to fill in the sections presented on the primer.
Additionally I reviewed my notes I had taken several years ago about goals and specific projects within the world. One of them is Project: Dragons, which details my goals for the lore section on dragons. It was an attempt to really bring it to the next level, but it felt daunting and was probably one of the factors why I stopped working on this world. That being said, WorldEmber is a time of writing and not editing, this means I will ignore all the existing characters and try to write the articles for that project that are not yet written. There is also potential to add a few more, but the focus should be on these:

  • Extinction (of the Dragons as a species). There are two aspects to this, the first is an expansion on the catastrophe that obliterated their society 66 million years ago and then the more modern aspect where the hunter's hunted down the last of the more beastial dragons that survived until then.
  • Dragons Revealed. Next is an article on how the knowledge of dragons was first spread in the world after The Veil and then how that news was taken by various institutions and people. Including a break down of the massive campaign launched by the Dragon Loyalists to ensure most people saw Cassidy as a woman with a kind heart and a drive to protect those weaker than her. Which is everyone, as some detractors like to point out.
  • The Dragon Hunter Society, which is part of the Hunter's Guild today, but used to be a number of different organizations active in the hunt for dragons across the globe.
  • Dragon Bone Storage / Reliquary. A high security building with limited access where dragon bones are stored by the Dragon Loyalists.
  • Cassidy Con Convention Center. Likely some existing building in Manhattan that can be used for that kind of thing. Will need to research this some. If any New Yorkers (or knowers of New York) are reading this and have an idea where that could be do let me know in the comments!

The other aspect I would like to focus on is something I have not worked on much so far in order to give myself some room to breath. One of the challenges of having this many articles is, that most things are mentioned somewhere and keeping things consistent is a real challenge. One that is definitely not one you can always succeed in, but you still want to anyway. At the same time I would like it to be something that is mention on the primer at least.
This means that it will fall on the Hunter's Guild to be expanded. This faction is the least developed of the ones mentioned in the primer. There are a fairly arbitrary collection of articles written about the factions structure and titles, two important people and a little bit of history. What is missing entirely is a focused discussion about the hunter's guild in Manhattan specifically, and what it is exactly they do today. For the most part, hunting all supernatural creatures has not been their practice for some time.

  • Article on Threats identified by the hunter's guild in Urban Environments, with specific focus on Manhattan
  • Article on Threats identified by the guild in Rural Environments, with specific focus on the Adirondack Mountains
  • Article that highlights the challenges of operating in the Adirondacks due to bad relations to the Adirondack Park Alliance.
  • Article on how the hunter's guild cooperates with local and national law enforcement.
  • Articles on three hunters operating in Manhattan
  • Articles on three hunters operating in Adirondack
  • Articles on six places relevant to the guild
  • Article on a hunter with an administrative role

These are just some ideas on what to work on. I will either choose or randomly pick something whenever I want to write.
