Everything a League Needs to Operate!
League Name
What do you mean, we're starting with the hardest one, right off the bat? You think we can just wander into a set of paperwork and just know what we're going to name ourselves? This is the field that typically gets saved for last, after all of the pondering, bickering, and back-and-forth decision-making takes place. The most common format for League names are as follows:
[...] League
League of [...]
The [...] League
For consistency, Avsovos requires "League" to be present in all of their League names. Other companies might not share this requirement!
Purpose of the League
What exactly are you setting out to do, adventurers? Are you a team of ruin-delvers? Maybe you're all about arcane explorations! Every League needs to find its own niche to be considered for official Avsovos backing, so be sure it's a cool one and, ideally, not one that already exists out there!
The Tempest League defined their purpose as being the wardens of the stormfront, supporting, protecting, rebuilding, and exploring natural disasters as they strike and in their aftermath!
Membership Requirements
What does it take to join this League? Do you accept new adventurers only, or do you only accept transfers from other Avsovos Leagues? Are you a warrior league, or are you filling your ranks with mages — or is making spectacular cupcakes the only hard requirement? As long as your membership requirements mostly make sense, a wildcard or two won't go terribly amiss.
The Reliquary League requires all members to join with a strong research skill, whether they be researchers by trade or warriors who aren't known to hit the books!
Leadership Structure and Duties
You really shouldn't be filling out this paperwork unless you've already got a trusted team beside you! This section is where you write all about them, what their roles are, and what those duties look like for each one. If you end up losing one of your leaders in the future, whether they decide to step down or move on to other paths as adventurers, you'll need to outline them well enough that another aspiring leader can take their place without disrupting the team!
These leadership roles can be as niche as the League itself! Different purposes will have different leadership requirements, so think these through!
Some Leagues may be built with a strong focus around crafting and artisanal activities, in addition to their adventuring activity! These Leagues might rely more heavily on quartermasters and tradesfolk in their ranks.
Code of Ethics
Here's a big one: What sort of behavior is acceptable for those who wear your League's colors? Crime tends to be the obvious out, but some exceptions have been made for illicit activity, if the case can be made for it. All Leagues are required to abide by the standard rules set in place by Avsovos.
The Tempest League has outlined that no member of the League is to leap into any disaster without their squad's backing ahead of time — an exception to this code had to be scribbled in for Cyclone Squad's Darren.
This is awesome, from the opening quote onwards. I really like the notion that, if I wanted to, I could sit down and write bylaws for my own league right now—and that I'm actually kinda tempted to do so!
Hehe that would be so fun! I'm expecting more additions and changes to this article over the course of the month, but by the time the event comes to a close, it should be everything one needs to put a League together in this world! :D
