The Leering Virgin Tavern
The front door enters into a tavern run by the owner, LoKag "Rootsmasher" Anakalathai, with room for dozens of patrons at once. The stairs off to the sides go up to the second floor which functions as the inn, built with eight rooms with two beds each.
Purpose / Function
The Leering Virgin Tavern & Inn serves as the resting point for travelers passing through Illuriana as they cross the river Isenar, as well as a resting area for exhausted working-class citizens.
Design
The walls of the tavern are rounded, leading up to a dome-shaped ceiling. The center of the dome ceiling acts as a chimney for the smoke from the fireplaces and occasional smoking patrons. Despite the dome ceiling, the floor of the inn on the second floor is completely flat, as the floor is supported by columns that lead up from the dome.
Entries
There are several windows, tinted so that a person outside can only see into the tavern by pressing their face to the glass. A person standing a few feet away can see no more than the figures sitting at the tables where the windows are at. However, the patrons can see out the windows perfectly from the inside, no matter where they are sitting.
The doors are made of Ruby Oak, as is much of the Leering Virgin Tavern except for the actual walls, floor, and ceiling.
Sensory & Appearance
The tavern is soothingly warm, with heat provided by the three fireplaces in the room, one on the east wall, one on the west wall, and one under the cooking spit in the center of the room. The mouth-watering smell of roasted boar permeates the air and spreads outside whenever the door is opened. The tavern is full of ambient noise, the clinking of glasses and boisterous roars of the intoxicated taverngoers, the sizzling of meat from Thalai "Wordpainter" Anakalathai's cooking spit.
Denizens
The Blacksmith Erikur visits the tavern regularly with his daughter Illayda, with whom he has a close and loving relationship. The two of them visit so often, they have a table reserved for them, with a copper plaque inscribed with their names.
LoKag and his family live in their house, which is connected to the tavern by a double-acting saloon door. LoKag's daughter Thalai can often be found in the center of the tavern, serving as the cook. His wife Nalla tends to the inn patrons' bedrooms, keeping them clean when they aren't in their rooms. His sons typically do not venture out of the bar, as one serves as the stock room organizer, and the other is responsible for obtaining food items and other materials.
