Hastatodextrus Mariani Cornelius

Tetrarch Mariani Cornelius served under Arquado Barbarossa⁣ in the conquest of the Western Horde and in Berlintini I's Great War of Coalition. He was earned the title of Hastatodextrus at the age of 27 and he lived to a ripe old age. He was a descendant of king Cornelius I who ruled the Kingdom of Berin for 32 years from 320 B.B to 288 B.B. This powerful aristocratic Berini family was killed off by Alexander I of Berin, Berlintini I of Berin's great great grandson.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

An average hight muscular man with wavy raven black hair.

Physical quirks

Right handed, stands up straight and has a smooth, fast and steady gait.

Specialized Equipment

He took a liking to Eldanfan the Outcast⁣'s dagger and carries it around. He wanted Eldanfan⁣'s sword as well, but Arquado decided to keep it to himself. His helmet has purple feathers protruding from the tubes on either side near his red crest to show his rank and position in the army. He also persuaded a Bashurian⁣ blacksmith to heat treat his sword and axepick. It wasn't cheap and it was said to have cost him around 2 Gold Tulli (Currency)⁣ because he was a rich foreigner (one should ask if it was really worth the extortion).

Mental characteristics

Education

Advanced military training, diplomatic education, court etiquette, horse riding, reading and writing, survival training, intelligence and couter-intelligence training as well as a little bit of history. He is rather educated and a lot of his education he received in high command officer courses. He also has the basic military training with includes basic survival, basic cooking and basic repairing and maintenance skills for his equipment. He may have the average education level for a man of his position (which is a lot), but Arquado Barbarossa⁣ outclasses him by far. This isn't the case with Mariani.

Employment

At the age of 17 he was drafted to the Berini army for 6 months. In these 6 months his potential and talent were seen and noted and his conscription period was extended to 25 years like many many conscripts who were seen to have potential in the army. That is how the Berini were able to pick the best soldiers they could get (by "sifting" through the huge population to find people with the traits they desired) and build with them a disciplined veteran army corps. Mariani served in the Berini army for more than 30 and was a very distinguished soldier throughout the latter part of it.

  • Yu-Mai Ashawa and her army harrassed his army for a few years in the Tri-River region and he wasn't really able to deal with her. His troops suffered a lot of casualties because of this.
  • He nearly got captured a few times.
  • He was made to pay a ridiculously high price for getting his sword and axepick heat treated by a Bashurian blacksmith.

    Yu-Mai Ashawa and Mariani Cornelius obviously don't like each other. For the majority of the time that that they had been interacting they had been at war with each other. Mariani is one of the highest ranking officers in the Berini First Campaigning Army which is responsible for conquering Bashur and forcing Yu-Mai Ashawa to flee from the city. Add to that that Mariani is a war profiteer who managed to steal and sell some valuable Bashurian artifacts (much to Do-Han Ashawa's dismay) it's quite plain as to why she doesn't like him. Yu-Mai Ashawa is a renegade queen who will just not stay down and keep on nipping at the ankles of Arquado Barbarossa and Mariani Cornelius and causing damage. Mariani also kind of saw her as out of her rightful place. Perhaps because he comes from a royal family that was stripped of it's power and influence twice. However, it's unclear as to how much he cared about the whole royal family stuff he carried around.
