On the Wind
In nearly 500 years, I have never seen a point to straying outside the bounds of the forest and the protection offered to us, fairies and witches alike, by the King, but the winds of the wood can be fickle, sometimes conniving, in the advice that they carry on their breezes. They sang to me as Spring's Evening dawned, calling me out beyond the boundaries of magic and history that holds us all so tightly within the leaves and branches of the wood. It called for me to leave my home and strike out on a new adventure that was more than likely best suited for a fledgling adventurer instead of a witch that spent her days weaving spells and yarn into intricate patterns. It was a surprise to hear the whispers to go, but the Elders called it a sign from the goddess, and I must go to fulfill my pledge.
As I stepped out of the wood that I had called home for nearly the last five centuries, I felt a void begin, almost as if in my very soul. I was reluctant to leave, but the winds urged me onward, to a small tavern in a town I had never seen nor heard of before. There awaited a posting on a job board, the calling that the winds had been telling me of for so long. So I steeled myself against everything that said return to the safety of the forest and headed towards the unknown and the Underdark.
Witches were not rare casters by any means, but we weren't exactly welcome in many places. I often used my letter from the weavers guild to hide what I actually was as I traveled. The protection of the King was leagues behind me, and while very few took issue with fairies, a much greater number distrusted the ways of the witch. That was why the coven never left the cover of the forest, but by the words of the goddess, I must, even if the world was not so kind to the followers of Libra.
The job had called for craftsmen, of no particular sort, but I only hoped my talents as a weaver and painter would fulfill the necessary duties and bring me favor as I left the wood. I was doing the work asked of me, and I could only hope that I had the protection of Libra as I traveled far into the unknown and past the point of safety for any of our kind. I prayed for safety and for knowledge, and safety I found throughout my travels. By the next morning, I would arrive at the meeting point, and would soon see if I had made a mistake leaving the safety I had always known.
The major events and journals in Lark's history, from the beginning to today.
The lighting apparatus that Senku created seemed oddly complicated, but I understood its intent. The crystals covered the cavern in a bright light, something that was too much for those who came from the Underdark. While Miz was used to wearing her special goggles, the deep marks on her face after a long day had to be painful. I had offered her some simple salves for them, and it seemed to have helped, but the change in the light would be much better.
06:28 pm - 21.07.2020My days varying from watching the dark tunnels to crafting various things and for that I am glad. The monotony that I often found in the quiet of the forest does not ring as true here. I have put my talents to work but I have also gone beyond those comfortable boundaries that were so common in my home. It has been a wonderful way to “stretch the wings" as they say.
06:28 pm - 21.07.2020If even for a moment, it was nice to bring out my paints and create a masterpiece. The stained glass windows that decorate the upper floor of our storeroom are far from my greatest works, but the camaraderie that was required to create them was beyond what I had encountered before. Senku and Syndra are both masters of their crafts, it has been decades since I was able to work with such talented glassmakers and jewelers. Their ages surprise me, especially with the way they handle themselves and their crafts. As the days pass here, I realize how much I have missed in my centuries being secluded in the woods. I do not remember the last time that I worked with a craftsman that was neither a witch or a fairy. I know we hide for our own safety and to secure our secrets, but what have we missed out on learning from others?
06:51 pm - 15.07.2020I have never drawn with glass, but it is something I wish to learn as we begin to make the stained glass for the store room. I have sketched my drawings on some scrap parchment, and along with the other two, we should be able to color and mold the glass to our needs. There is an excitement in this, bringing my art and craft to the darkness. We have talked briefly about painting the walls with murals. I can only hope this becomes a reality. As the child and the enchantress play with alchemy, I begin the drawings for my other request. I will try to write the story of the Mithril Mantle through images, a request of the dwarf. While the enchantress may later write the words to my story, it is the images that are more impactful, and I wish to do our home justice.
08:08 pm - 08.06.2020Libra has brought us safety in these days. The Xorn spoke of many creatures in the tunnels near us and some have had to witness the creeping feeling of dread from the basilisk. Even so, we have remained safe, something that I gratefully pray to the goddess for. It seems my painting skills are a bit out of use, but the sun that graces the ceiling now is enough to brighten our spirits. With more practice, it would be an honor to paint the ceiling into murals of the surface world, but that can only happen within time.
03:24 pm - 21.05.2020I try not to question Libra's word as I enter a world where no one should ever go, but the words on the wind ring strong. I must go with them, my talents will be needed. While I have yet to assist with weaving, my skills have been put to use elsewhere. It feels good to work with my hands, feeling the callouses built up from years at a loom. I feel as if I have a purpose, and that alone dispels the doubt in my heart. I am told by the dwarf that my skills will be greatly needed later. Weaving fine metals into armor is not so far from what I have done in the past and I relish the thought of a new challenge. More time must pass before we are ready for such a thing, but soon I will once again be able to ply my trade.
