Zariel's sword

by Caja

Dear Nori,
You won’t believe what we’ve seen!
We've found the Bloody Cyst. It's not one big gross wound, but an entire castle! Beautiful too. Not at all what you would expect from a place called the Bloody Cyst.
Anyway, we entered the castle and were greeted by lady Yael. You know, from the visions. I think she was a ghost, maybe? Not sure. She was definitely there, but also not. She had protected the sword for a long time. Probably for over a century. After she gave it to us, we all had a vision again.
We saw a young Zariel (I'm not sure how an angel can be young, but she was). She was part of a small regiment, ready to conquer Avernus (this is also kinda confusing to me. Why would angels want to own a piece of hell? Maybe I didn't understand it right), listening to their commander Chazaqiel.
Then another vision. We were flying above a jungle. We were solars, a small regiment under Zariel's command. Another group approached us. They were also solars, under command of Chazaqiel. He told her about the betrayal of another angel, and that Ashmedai had conquered Avernus for himself. Zariel said this was betrayal, and then they we were fighting. We were mainly siding with Zariel. Which was the wrong choice, since Chazaqiel soon got reinforcements. Zariel decided to retreat.
A new vision. Zariel is talking with Glasya, Asmodeus’ daughter (big question mark here. The ruler of hell has children? With who?). She and her party followed Yeenoghu. The meeting didn't seem very friendly at the start, but Zariel and Glasya made a deal. I'm not sure what for, since Glasya wanted to speak to Zariel privately.
The next part of the vision was truly shocking. We were back in Avernus. There was a HUGE pile of dead devils. Some still alive devils were moving corpses, which revealed Zariel was on the bottom of the pile. Then the still-alive-ones throw themselves to the ground, kneeling. Someone was approaching. From the previous bit we could see it was Asmedai, except he was a devil now. Zariel calls him Asmodeus. They were definitely not friendly. Or at least, Zariel wasn’t (to be fair, she was tired, beaten and close to death). Devils are always friendly when making a deal. He offers her the chance to kill even more demons. She will sit at his Dark Eight council(?) and have an army to command. Eventually, Zariel accepts.
The last part happened before the previous one. It is where Zariel - still an angel, and good, although almost beaten - gives her sword to lady Yael. The lady weeps and doesn’t want it, but takes it nonetheless. And we see something else too. A spark springs from Zariel into the sword. Maybe part of her soul? Or her goodness? I’m not sure what it exactly is, but we all know it is the thing that might turn Zariel good again.
Then we were back at the Bloody Cyst. However, the beautiful castle was crumbling. We had to get the fuck out of there. Somehow, the best way to get out was through the roof.
I'm so glad Yael didn't want to fight. I kinda expected her to act like the unicorn or something. Ever since we got it, Fenrir has been looking at the sword funny. Sephadi says you can only attune to it if the sword thinks you’re worthy. I think Fenrir saw that as a challenge (he probably didn’t consider the possibility he wouldn’t be worthy. He’s a paladin after all), so he attuned to it when we took a rest. Somehow, he became more. Or better? I’m not sure how to explain it. He just became a little bit hotter (like that was a problem before), he seemed more righteous (also, not a problem before. Actually, more righteous might be a problem), a little bit stronger and he had grown wings. The wings were pretty awesome. Leo seemed jealous when Ron and me mentioned Fenrir looked hotter than before (yes, I think that’s funny). Sephadi also seemed annoyed by the notion. Probably because she's not used to not being the hottest person around.
Anyway, after the metamorphosis we weren’t really sure what to do. Somehow we kinda expected it to all become clear. Somehow Hell always disappoints on the predictability. I think we’re gonna ride to Maggie now, like she knows what’s our next step. I kinda want to visit Bazelstein. I think he might have an idea.
We are one step closer to saving Elturel. Just hang in there Nori, we’ll be back in Faerûn before you know it!
Your loving sister,
Caja
