Bandit Ambush & The Journey to Haverhill

by Tic-Tic

Takin' a breather

We're just takin' a breather for a lil'while inside an ol'ruined buildin', Merisiel needs to patch herself up. So I thought I'd use this opportunity to update whas'append.

Where are we?

Currently, I'm in a ruin along the southern road to Haverhill. It's gettin' late, the sun is startin' to dip jus'below the tree-tops. The ruin I'm in, if I had to guess was an ol'coach Inn based on the shape an location. The roof has since long gone an'now the canopies of trees are servin'as a roof instead.
Most of the interior is jus' piles of rubble, covered in a spongy green moss. There are a few bedrolls, a flat wooden chest and an old campfire, looks like the bandits were campin' here, waitin' for travelers. Judgin' by the amount of ash in the fire an the occasional mouldy log pile, looks like this place ave'bin used quite a bit. I suppose probably used by other bandits or travelers seekin' shelter.

Loot

Ad'a look in the chest, foun';
  • A small pouch containin' 3 Crowns an' 44 ships. We'll divvy out later.
  • Also foun' 2 Lesser Alchemists Fire. I'll stick'um under the driver seat.

People

In terms of how everyone's doin', I'm alright. Bit of cosmetic singein' an a little slash on my right side.
Olyn looks like she has taken a few knocks and slashes bu' is otherwise fine. I think she's goin' to av'a problem gettin blood out of those robes.
Merisiel meanwhile is lookin a bit worse for wear. They've had a few nasty cuts from a sword or somethin'. Bu' at least they know how to patch'emselves up.

The Journey for the Las' Couple of Days

Fairly, uneventful. The mornin' we left the bridge, Drakzath flew out west an' said they would meet us at the mountain jus' near Haverhill. That day the clouds were heavy an the winds were low, bu' there was a serious drop in temperature. Spent most of it wrapped up in my bedroll in the back of the cart. Not much was said. Olyn put on a bit of a jugglin' act when we bedded down on the side of the road.
The second day was much the same, bu' the day was certainly a bit warmer. Passin' through meadows an' the like. Saw a meadow tha'was covered in small mounds of earth, looked like someone had dug a series of ole's lookin for somethin'. We had a nosy, the ole's looked like they'd'bin dug in the las'couple of months. Foun' a battered ol'metal box near one of the ole's, lock was busted an the thing was empty. After that we jus' carried on.

The third day, the sun had decided to show its face an' it was quite nice. We'd come into a patch of woodland again. Occasionaly we'd see the ol'overgrown ruins of houses along the way. If I had to guess, they were farmsteads an' out-buildin's that'av long since'bin abandoned. We camped-out inside one of these buildin's, I left my mark etched Into the crumblin' plaster wall.

Gettin' Close to Haverhill an Bandits

So this brings us forward to today, like in other days the travel was uneventful and Haverhill was gettin ever closer. I spent most of the day dreamin' abou'the first crisp sip of ale washin' itself down my maw. Oh and chicken, I could murder someone for a steamin'bowl of chicken an'dumplins. But as sun was quickly settin' we came to an ol' ruined inn with some geezah standin in the road.
As I got a good look at'im I noticed his face was covered an’in one of his hands was a nasty lookin’ sword, as he held out a hand to stop us, the cart came to a stall. Now this guy clearly was some sorta roadside bandit an it was no surprise he was tryin'to shake us down. The others were bein' more diplomatic, I jus asked the cunt "What the Fuck do you want!?", the others wi'me winced a lil'at this bu' you gotta be firm an bigger than guys like this.

The others told'um that he ain't gettin a coin out of'um. With a gesture from is hands the rest of his ragged gang showed 'emselves. Two came from the ruin, one was tall'an skinny, while the other was a clumsy oaf. To our right, hidden in the brush was another clad in deerskins.

Now that the big-boss was surrounded by his gang, he started layin'down threats'abou what he's goin'to do to us if we don't give'im our valuables. So I asked'im a lil'question.

I felt the frenzy come over me as a big toothy smile cracked across my face, I could already smell the blood in the air as I asked'em;
"If he'd ever seen a man's eyes melt outta their skull? Cus I have"

With a lil'help from Merisiel, the bandits hesitated for a while. Clearly choking on their decision to hold us up. I'm quite pleased with that'lil outcome.

A Scrap with Bandits

Round 0

We used this opportunity to act quickly. Merisiel an'Olyn stormed up the road to smash the main bulk of the bandits. Meanwhile I dropped a smoke bomb, jumped off the wagon an'hid behind an ol'statue of a lion, my eyes on the guy in the deerskin.

Round 1

While my associates were dealin' with the others. I broke out from behind the statue, keepin low with a dagger in hand. Diving into a bush an waited for my prey. The others scrapped up the road while Mr Deerskin, decided to investigate where I had gotten to. As I saw his shape dart passed. I grabbed him and sunk my dagger deep into his belly. With shock in his eye he, took a slash at my head, I was able to knock the blade away and caught it on my shoulder instead. Sure it hurt, but not too badly.

Round 2

Seeing as my element of surprise was lost, I reached for one of the familiar bottles on my chest and looked into his eyes. His look of surprise soon quickly turned to agony, as the bottle smashed we were both enveloped by the burnin'embrace of Alchemists Fire. He screamed an crumpled to the ground coverd in flames, till his screamin' stopped an the deerskin burnt black.
Smoulderin' from the fires kiss, I cackled my way up the road. Merisiel was fightin' the big boss, while it looked like Olyn was facein' the skinny fella and the oaf was jus a'lil behind him. Still ridin’my fiery high, I jumped atop of the crumblin' wall and stood at the side of The Skinny Man.
The Skinny Man took a slash at Olyn with his sword, bu'she was able to duck outta the way in time. He then took a swipe at me an the blade landed a nasty gash on the side of my torso. Meanwhile the Bandit Boss was laying some heavy hits on Merisiel, slashin' them up to ribbons. The Oaf, well he botched a fire bomb an set'imself on fire an died screamin'an'crawlin'.

Round 3

Takin'stock of the situation I lobbed a couple'a bombs to help things out. The Bandit Boss was set ablaze by a bottle filled with Alchemists Fire. The guy Infront of me, I needed to weaken him down a bit. So I lobbed the bottled lightning at him, when it smashed the vapour inside crackled in the air an zapping him with a bolt of lightning, makin'im uneasy as he twitched an jittered.
Usein'is uneasiness I leapt at him grabbin onto his face an head. We came tumblin'down with'im screamin "GET IT OFF! GET OFF!" As he tries to rip me off his face but I dug my fingers deeper into his nose an mouth with giggling glee. Eventually he was able to throw me off an got back to his feet.
Across the way, past The Skinny Guy, I heard Merisiel chantin'away in what I can only assume was elvish. As the chant continued a green orb of liquid formed in her hands, with a flick'of her wrist the orb was hurled into the face of The Big Boss. He buckled down to is'knees, clawin'at his face screamin as eyes an skin started to melt away revealin the white of bone. He collapsed to the ground an was no more.

Post Battle

After The Big Boss died, The Skinny Guy gave up an surrendered. So I proceeded to shake him down, an'he told me about their box of goodies. I wanted to make an example of this guy, while I had'im at the point of my dagger. I wasn't goin'to kill'im or anythin' I'jus wanted to rob him of his boots an breeches, maybe the humiliation of walkin'back would teach'im not to fuck with us.
Olyn decided to swoop in an instead let him leave with his boots AND with a full crown in'is pocket. I'm not gunna'lie, that kinda made us look like a bunch'a mugs. I mean, if she gave'im five copper lions or even a silver ship that would be understandable, carrot an' stick if you would. But a whole golden crown is fuckin' mental, I've seen people's lights go out for less.

All in all regardin'the fight I think we came off it pretty well. I was sneaky when I needed to be an bomb-blasted the bastards. The only thing I should'a done different was probably stayin' close to the others an observe them closer. If I need to know what'll bring'um down, I need to pay closer attention to them.
But I think we will be makin'tracks soon, I'll probably write later. I think I'll need to av'some words.
