Opening Up

by Hildreth

Sitting down to eat breakfast with the party and the farmers, Hildreth gives Zohar the first piece before digging in himself.

'Things seem to be improving with the adventurers,' Hildreth thinks to himself. 'They are all together now, and even though one of their number is paralyzed thanks to poison, their togetherness has definitely created a sort of...glow? I don't know if that is a good descriptor, but their mood is considerably improved.' "Much like I am when I am with you friend," Hildreth says allowed, albeit quietly, as he gives Zohar another piece. 'Both of you'.

'You, Sayah, especially, were all the rage last night. Xylund wouldn't stop talking about you. Normally I would be happy to answer his questions, but he started getting...strange thoughts. He wanted to make some sort of special board to talk to you, I suppose. I tried my best to explain to him our way of communication, but I don't think he was understanding, nor would be happy until he got what he wanted, so I had to come up with some hogwash about getting haunted by the dead if he got to curious. I don't think he believed it so much, but he did stop asking questions after a time. To be honest Sayah, if his labors bear fruit I think I might be willing to work with him more on his crazy idea, but that is some time in the future I imagine, if at all. For now he has his mind on finding this Badger. I know he's a dwarf, but beyond that I know nothing, beyond that he was in that barn at some point.' Hildreth takes another, thoughtful bite and considers this Badger more.

'There were no signs of him, or any dwarf that I could find. Thanks to you Sayah we were able to get past the storm trap, and find that bag hidden up in the rafters. Inside was a pigs head, though, not a dwarf head. I don't ever remember any of the farmers at home doing such a practice. Indeed, that's more the sort of ritual I would use instead. Also, I swear I saw the bag shift and move before Lana removed the head. Perhaps it was my imagination; I was incredibly tense.' Hildreth feeds Zohar another strip, and takes the time to look through her eyes to observe all those gathered. 'I don't trust them Sayah. They are up to no good. I will play along for now, so we can visit these druids and save Davynn, and perhaps find this Badger, but mark my words, they are not to be trusted.'

While Hildreth looks down into his breakfast, Zohar stares directly at Kitt and Kern, in the middle of some awkward flirting. 'She's the one that worries me most. She's latched on to Kern too fast, and with our vision of Badger in their barn, the trap, the head, and even the Fallarun attacking them? Something is definitely wrong here, and she knows what it is. Should I tell the others? No. My purpose here is to observe and learn. This will tell me how they react to a situation such as this. Perhaps they are springing this trap on purpose. Surely these "great heroes" aren't so blind to the danger present here, yes? Also, finally, I might be reading the situation wrong myself, and if I am and alert them to a non existent, that might ruin the best chance we have to meet the druids. This party is...spontaneous, after all.' Hildreth returns his sight to his own eye, so he could concentrate on his meal.

Hildreth takes a bite and turns his gaze to the makeshift hospital room Davynn is in. 'I do enjoy the boy Davynn, but a part of me still wishes we get to kill him. I have never opened up and drained the blood out of anything that big before. Besides, blood of a creature like him could have amazing properties...'
