Letters to Meeka - 3 - Devil's Judgement
I take this brief moment to simply jot down some events before I possibly forget the mundane details, as it seems... Your daughter has stumbled into a position of state.
But first, breakfast: it was just a ration today. I don't know why but I woke up feeling rather... dissociated. The wolves appear to have slept alongside us. Oh did I not mention them before? Well, there were wolves at this point of the forest. Friendly ones though, who seemed quite tamed and helped to lead us out of the depths of the forest.
However, once the helpful wolf had left, Cyra decided she'd seen something of interest within the trees. A ritual circle and another Guardian statue. She asked us all to look at it but I was far too drawn into my own thoughts to discern anything useful. But then she found a bag, most likely of the ritual's owner, and asked me to identify bone dust and lichen... I admit I was short with her. It's bone dust mixed with lichen. She couldn't determine that herself?
Either way, she was rummaging around in that bag when we found ourselves surrounded by tree imps of some kind. That was when two men emerged. Neither seemed to know one another and they had come from different directions. They later gave me their names, Dresmin and Davis.
Davis was lethal with his javelins, striking down the majority of them without a word and seeming to only need to take one strike. I'll admit an envy, as I was unable to help much in this fight. Then again, what purpose does a simple medicine woman have in such things?
Dresmin had appeared closer to where I had been standing, nearly cleaving one of them in half. I helped complete it's sundering and he seemed thankful at the end. But ultimately, I believe he is repulsed by me. Yet he has recently sworn himself under me. So far I've found him amusing. He tried to take Zaheed from me. It did not go well for him. And upon his retrieval Dresmin feared the law more than I. He has promised to work as a sellsword of sorts for me until the debt is paid. A number he made up at 200 gold, already gifting me 2, so his debt remains at 198 as of my writing of this letter. Already he schemes to end our attachment relatively soon. I don't intend on letting him. I find his discomfort in my presence entertaining, if not a bit annoying... Something tells me its not because he finds me ugly, as he's made comments. However, nothing yet has manifested from it. But if it does... Oh how I hope it does. What a fun row (r-ow, not r-oh) that will be.
But returning to the topic of Davis... I seem to have a case of deja-vu. He has a visibly blind eye that feels familiar... Jeremiah in fact had a blind eye. But this man, while also relatively attractive, is very much not Jeremiah. And yet... When pulling his cards... I got a mirroring of the previous reading (for Dresmin) with The Devil, and with such a reading I pulled a clarifying card... And it appeared. Judgement. The same card I pulled for Jeremiah only 2 days before. I wonder if they are possibly related? Or close friends? Then again... the eye makes it hard to guess. He seemed unaware of all previous happenings, claiming to have never been in the mist as well... But then it itched at me again when we were taken through a portal into Vrimford. He was very sick, as was everyone, but me. Yet he said magic has never been kind to him, or that he'd never liked it... Which once again reminds me of the disturbance Jeremiah had at the guard speaking with the dead. It is most likely nothing to concern myself with, as who knows if he will be sticking around... but the similarities are odd.
But I could also just be so damn bored I am looking for ANYONE of interest by combining two of the more normal people I've met. That must be it. I'm rusty in fighting and in reading people...
I did also pull a clarifying card for Dresmin, at his request, and they reveled the High Priestess. He expressed it means nothing to him, but I do wonder if later on they might...
Returning to Davis, I guess he isn't the most normal. He seems to work as a sellsword and a prostitute, which I'm sure there's a joke in that irony somewhere. But he seemed to pay close attention to everyone's interests. Granted, I egged it on. I wanted to know, for my own amusement mostly. But you never know what could end up being useful information in the future.
Yet, I can hear you groaning, so fine. We got some kind of papers from the Chancellor giving property and titles, even tossed us 30 platinum pieces. Like a good dog, Dresmin handed me the pouch. I will have to remember to split the earnings. If anything to not receive a knife in my sleep. We also have landed in Vrimford... I've avoided the capitol and especially the High Gardens for many reasons, but now find myself tossed into the vipers den it seems. Oh, I'm not concerned, but I am hopeful to once again attend those prancing noble dinners or balls. Nothing was more fun than messing with the mind of a seemingly invincible aristocrat. Yet, sounds more like we've been enlisted than given office. Pity...
Property and titles is outside of my comfort zone. Yet I've also never attached myself to so many and for what I'm anticipating to be a long time.
Perhaps it is time for a change... The Devil was revealed twice.

It is difficult to write this by campfire light, as I am trying to not smudge these pages with ash or have them burn, but for you I shall do my very best. It was a somber morning after the events of last night. Many have left the inns and when visiting t...

I made it to the Harvenset Fête this year. It has been a unique change from those we visited when I was a child. Of course there always is some snake oil salesman in the Herbalist Court, and this year it appears they were trying to pass off a bottle of ...

Family Ties
Mara at one point had a lover, whom even in death influences her decisions. When alive he often wanted her to be careful and more attuned the justice of society. Follow the laws and live like normal people. So often she will now make choices she otherwise wouldn't have made because she feels guilty for her refusal in his life that ultimately ended in his death.
The place she feels safest is within the woods around Oakenrest. It is the woods she grew up in and knows the most. It is not known to anyone but her and Zaheed that she often goes deep within those woods when she hides away from the consequences of her actions.
Hobbies & Pets
Zaheed is her pet snake, who she adores and has been her companion for a long time.
She often enjoys reading her tarot cards to pass the time.
Mara is very close with her snake Zaheed, who was gifted to her, like her deck of divination cards, by her mentor, Serket. She sees the snake as her best friend and dotes on him like a spoiled child.
