His parents believe that they are staunch conservatives (they are not) while he is a much more neutral person. Marshall is still cautious of certain groups though.

Marshall's Bother Deputy died when he was 12 years old at the battle of Potetkim, Marshall's Home City. Marshall believes his Brother's Death to be his fault because he was hiding in one of the cities escape pod bays. Deputy knew where he was hidden and went to collect him. Unfortunately an Elven Witch who had boarded the city found them and cast a spell that blew a hole through the cities wall, seemingly killing Her and Deputy but not Marshall.
In the years following, Marshall waited desperately for Deputy to return alive, he never did. In the grief of losing her eldest Son, Marshall's Mother (Secretary) attempted to cope by trying to make Marshall into Deputy. Marshall became increasingly frustrated without understanding why, he later came to realise that he despised the life of a Nobleman.
When Marshall was 16 he was signed up for Military Service, his parents attempted to install him as an officer but he sabotaged the papers to become a common soldier instead. Over the 6 years of his Service Marshall rose though the ranks to become the E4 Captain of his own squad and a very well respected one at that. Marshall was happy in his years in Service, his early years he spent pretending to be a commoner and after he was discovered to be a nobleman, he continued on acting like a commoner anyway. Marshall developed a reputation for being a hard worker who earned his position by starting from the bottom and refusing handouts due to his nobility.
In Marshall's second year of service he developed his Pyrophobia due to an incident. He and 4 other Squadmates where stationed in a convoy, specifically in a Vehicle where he was the gunner up top. An Ambush occured and the vehicle was hit and sent down the side of the cliff that the road was on, the vehicle was lit aflame. Marshall was knocked from the vehicle and when he reached the ground, he realised that all 4 of his Squadmates were trapped inside. He attempted to free them from the vehicle (lighting himself aflame in the process) but was unsuccessful. All 4 men perished before help could arrive.
After being forced out of Service by his parents, Marshall hatched an idea. His parents wanted his to marry someone but he disliked all the options and he disliked the city. Marshall decieded to convince his parents that he should travel to The Wall (a Stitches settlement located outside the Gnarled Wilds) and set up a shop there to sell thier goods to adventureres. After much proding and poking, they agreeed.
Marshall travelled to The Wall and purchased a plot of land next to an Alchemist and Witch called Eleanore. The began thier relationship as fierce rivals who spited each other at every turn, however over the course of the year the two began to feel things for each other. Eventually this climaxed with an Incident where the two where trapped in a flooding basement during a storm where they dramatically kissed and decieded that if they lived, they should start dating. They lived. After 6 months of dating, the two decieded to get Engaged and then elope as niether had the funds for a proper wedding.
Near the end of 1971, Eleanor and Marshall decieded that if they were to ever make any amount of actual money from thier store, they would need more goods and as such agreed that Marshall would need to go and collect a large amount of exotic and usefull trading goods for thier store.
