Artie's First Ship: the Navem Stultor
NUTSHELL: 1722's Millennium Falcon
[THE TEAM'S SHIP IS DESIGNED BY ALL THE PLAYERS ON THE TEAM, SO THIS IS JUST A PLACEHOLDER (and Chip thinks it's a great idea) UNTIL THE ENTIRE CREW IS ASSEMBLED.]
NAME: Navem Stultor, Latin for "Ship of Fools" because it travels in dire need of knowledge. (In Portugese, "Navio dos Tolos".)
THEME SONG: Brian Setzer's "Who Would Love This Car But Me". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbKjr9J4PMU
HULL DESIGN: Schooner
DESTINY: These fast and efficient ships are built for exploration and Privateers who chase the horizon. This hull type was designed for long voyages, no matter how good (or bad) the wind. Speed and efficiency of travel are its hallmarks, making it ideal for courier work, exploration, or even smuggling. This Ship’s Destiny often sings of the unknown and discovery on the far shores of this world or the lost shores of Otherworld.
Ship’s components and modules : Navigator Portal Platform, and more TBD. It has no engines, only sails for wind power (for now).
History: This ship was built for the Grimling Archnavigator, Paag Yorsteam, (Tealioth Sept) after he retired from a long and mostly secretive career. It is said he could pilot it singlehandedly, although that idea strains credulity. It obviously has many more miles than years on it, judging by the overall condition. Professor Paag describes the ship as, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts."
Professor Paag told Artie of his adventures in the Navem in only the vaguest possible terms. An only slightly stale half-eaten sandwich untouched by rats next to a pair of discarded ladies' underwear would be about average for the weirdness of items that can be found in the nooks and crannies of this ship.
Arbitrum Oliveira bought the well-used ship from his mentor who taught him Engineering and Navigation at Oxford, after spending a few weeks on the ship to learn the intangibles about her. Professor Yorsteam was (and still is) of the school of thought that a pilot needs to know how to repair every important component of his ship in order to maintain a good feel for how much stress he is applying to it and how much it can take before a component cracks or a system breaks down. As the song goes, "She'll never leave you stranded in a bad neighborhood," but that depends on excellent maintenance and a pilot who knows just how far he can press his luck. He made sure Artie knew the arcane materials to use and where one can find them (or at least used to be able to find them).
Artie had to promise the Grimling that he would offer assistance should the Stormchaser Guild call for help to hunt a rogue gate or whatnot.
(After Artie gains some more real-world experience piloting this ship, Professor Paag plans to lean on Artie to help him design and build the Navigation Portal Platform for the next "retirement yacht" that the Archnavigator plans to have built for his personal enjoyment.)
Now that Artie has purchased the ship, he is looking to hire a captain and crew to run the ship while he focuses on learning about the cosmos and gathering power.

Contacts & Relations
Artie writes to his wealthy sister almost daily. Her husband is a Surgeon(Arcane Healer). See below about Artie's father. Artie's old professor and mentor is the Grimling Archnavigator, Paag Yorsteam, (Tealioth Sept).
Wealth & Financial state
Artie has the skills and reputation to find work easily, so he can gather as much money as he wants, given some time.
Family Ties
Artie's parents have been magically transformed into Mallard ducks. His father occassionally flies in and sits on Artie's shoulder and quacks to him about how his mother is doing raising the new chicks. Artie feels obligated to always let his father know how to contact him, which often means leaving a message which can only be read from the sky, indicating where he plans to head next.
His father knows a great deal of territory from the sky as necessary to migrating. And he remembers a lot about farming.
Religious Views
There is one thing Artie is certain about: If he ever in the future gains the kind of ultimate power he seeks, he will definitely (if there is any magic in existance capable of so doing, (and if there is not, then he will invent such a magic as fits his needs)) he will definitely send messages or influences back to his younger self to get and keep himself on the right track, gaining knowledge and power faster than any adversary, until he is the one and only Supreme Sorceror, able to hold the whole together, Earth and the Otherworld.
He believes that the bizarrely mangled spell which transformed his parents into ducks was sent by his future self to free him to travel the world and to free his parents from material needs.
Anytime he meets with bad fortune of any kind, he looks for the "silver lining", hoping it is just another push toward his destiny.
Speech
Artie controls his arcane inventions with spoken incants (like The Mighty Isis), which usually have the couplet format like:
"Zephyr winds which blow on high,
Lift me now that I may fly."
