Speaking Plainly

by Inigo Hob-kin

I hate the undermountain, let me state that clearly for my personal record. Because if I do meet an unfortunate end down here, I need you who is reading this to know that. Tight corridors and enemies around every corner. For every wonderous reprieve we find, we have encountered multiple life threatening situations. Any currency or treasure we find is a small bonus, but I dont know if what we find down here will be worth the risk. Some of the first enemies we encountered down here were goblins and bugbears. Knowing my kind was down here....doing some evil master's bidding, made my blood run cold. I took no pleasure in taking their lives.

We have encountered goblins, undead and a numerous amount of traps, of which I have fallen victim to many a time. On top of our friends occasionally disappearing, it appears this whole mountain is under the control of some mad sorcerer. During our time down here I have made fast friends with some of my companions. We also encountered a cleric who had been killed by his 'friends', risen as a Revenant. I felt a kinship with him and vowed to aid him in finding those that betrayed him. Their group went by the name Friendly Fellows of Daggerford...

M.I.K.E., our warforged wizard has proven to be quite useful and destructive. He also seemingly recruited an Iron Golem to our cause, yet it doesn't seem to be of much use. Out of all of us, the Golem seems to be the most lost. Hopefully we can find the key to assisting it in its search for its lost master.

In aiding our revenant friend, we were led to a room that was enchanted to treat guests like royalty. In there we encountered the cleric member of the Friendly Fellows. Our Revenant friend shredded them to ribbons. As he picked up his holy symbol to the Merchant God, he turned to thank me and turned to ash. I took the obsidian holy symbol off cleric he killed. Afterwards, I felled more who threatened us further down and started to find some meaning of me being in the darkness, then the goddess whispered to me. Shar came to me in a dream as I slept. She offered me power....and I took it. I cut out an eye to form a pact with her and in return she has granted me power as a Warlock. I lost some of my sight in the ordeal, but the symbol I found became a new black eye and now I see her in her true dark beauty.

At a later time we found another member of the Friendly Fellows in the goblin market, caged by the market's master. Our group was able to make a deal for him and he was able to give us information on how to travel further into the undermountain. I stabbed the snake hilt deep with my rapier with assistance from Inaxina, a rogue much like myself, as she stabbed him in the abdomen. As I watched him bleed out on the cold stone, I told him his cleric friend sends his best regards. I believe Shar was very pleased with that.

Finishing off the last member of the Friendly Fellows made me feel a cold peace. I want to think knowing that no more of their group down here to backstab other adventurers or possibly my companions made me feel justified in doing what I did. I owe Inaxina a debt of gratitude for her help. A debt that I must repay. The phrase "honor among thieves" comes to mind when I think of Inaxina...

Shortly after those events played out, we had met back up with Tess, a fire Genasi who is an extremely skilled Artificer. We originally came down here with her and we became separated from her for a short time. Her magical items and enchanting skills continually surprise me. If I'm being honest...I am quite jealous of her aptitude for magic and crafting. For the short time I have worked alongside her she has proven to be valuable ally. I look forward to her developing her skills further.

I must say, out of all the evil and criminals down here, the Xanathar's Guild members down here are definitely the most organized. Guarding entrances to lower levels, blocking hallways and one such group even had some sort of undead beholder as a watch dog. Due to some quick thinking and some shapechanging magical armor I procured, the beholder did not attack us and our group made quick work of those Xanathar thugs.

Currently we are searching for the tavern in the third level down in the undermountain. A small town called Skullport is where it resides, apparently. The name alone doesn't relax me. I have a feeling we will be in for a rough arrival. May Shar guide me through the darkness.

The major events and journals in Inigo's history, from the beginning to today.

Pact with Shar

Shar came to me in my dreams to offer me a pact. She said it would be done when I cut out my eye. So I did. As a symbol for our pact she gave me a new black eye to replace the one I no longer needed.
