Shahana was raised on a barren, desert planet. This inspired her to travel to other planets for the plant life. She pursued a career in botany when she discovered her love of plants. She hasn't returned to her home planet since she left at age 18. She left behind a mother and two younger brothers, and writes to them as often as possible.

Shahana has received awards for her work in gene splicing on multiple planets. She is held in high regards by all her peers.

Shahana is very self-conscious about her nose. Her clumsiness has resulted in several trips that have broken her nose. She wishes to avoid all talk of her crooked nose.
