Second Day - Into the Jungle

by Rhogad

The kind of creatures that keep showing up on this island are starting to make me wonder if there might be some semi-divine curse on this place.

We headed out of town this morning, going north-east towards Sector 3. According to the captain, it is a 3 day journey. The resident bugbear had acquired a follower overnight. I approve of his use of a meat shield.
While on the road, we were attacked by a group of feral monkeys. The engagement went well for us. The other hob proved his worth with some sort of invisible wave attack that shredded the small monkeys. I and the bugbear poked the three big ones full of holes while the crazy goblin and the half-orc distracted them (side note: the bugbear used the goblin to great effect as a projectile, I may be able to use this in the future).

After that we were attacked by... some THING. I didn't get a good look at it, but it came from the ocean. As soon as it appeared, the entire party bolted while the crazy goblin heroically distracted it. From what I saw, it somehow distorted reality around it, and it hit me a couple of times with some kind of fire attack (why a creature that came from the ocean has a fire based attack is beyond me).

Whatever it was that attacked us, it seemed to be after the crazy goblin, as it didn't follow the rest of the party after we got away. A bit later, I met up with the rest of the party in the jungle. They had already set up camp in some kind of tree-fort, so I offered to take first watch.

---Magic Collar Countermeasure Possibilities---

During the engagement with the apes, I saw the crazy goblin get electrocuted right in front of me. As the lightning coursed through his body, I felt the winds faintly. Do the collars call upon the winds to shock their victims? If so, it may be possible to channel that energy to cast a spell of the same nature.... I know that casting lightning magic while in a storm is possible, even with shipboard dampening fields in effect (thought it is quite difficult). With this in mind, perhaps it is possible to cast a lightning spell while being shocked by the collar? I would need focus to overcome the distraction of the shock, not to mention the dampening field, but if this is possible, I might be able to reliably cast spells. Perhaps, I can even use this to damage the collars, maybe overload them in some way? Its worth a shot.

Alternatively, I might be able to use this surge to summon one or both of my weapons. Though... is this actually necessary? I have never really experimented with the whys of my weapons summoning. Are the winds carrying them to me, or is it some other force? I should test this ability. It might not even activate the shock collar..... If the power that summons the weapons is not magical in nature (though I believe it is), then the dampening field won't stop the summoning. Alternatively, the dampening field might stop the summoning, but it might not trigger the actual shock effect (this may or may not be desirable, as without the shock surge, it may not be possible to overcome the dampening effect, assuming such a thing is possible in the first place).

---End Collar Countermeasures---

While on watch, I heard a loud "thud", as something landed next to our tree fort....

First Day in Newbowland

These bloody privateers! Incompetent bilge rats one and all! Not only did they leave the prisoners unattended for several days, but they also let some carnivorous creatures run rampant. If this was my ship, I would have had them keelhauled by now. (As an...

Rhogad the Slayer did not spend much of his life in the legion he was born into. He was born smaller in stature and physically weaker than his fellows. The legion deemed him a waste of their limited food supply and exiled him before he reached adulthood. ...
