Some confuse Axolotls and Couatls to be the same race, and those people are half right. Both are lizard like people who follow the waters of their creators, Yin and Yang. However confusing an Axolotl with a Couatl will result in many curses or a punch to the face.   Axolotls worship and protect Yin, the keeper of the oceans. They are deep rooted in tradition, and tend to keep to the oceans where others share similar beliefs. It is rare to find Axolotls outside of the ocean or port cities, and only diplomats dare venture into land. They take on a more amphibian look, with more fish like qualities. They typically can hold their breath for 30 minutes, but can spend up to an hour under water if they fill air sacks on their throats with oxygen. Normally the air sacks are tucked away and hidden, but it is a common trick to inflate them to impress their potential mates, or to freak out landlubbers.   Couatls on the other hand protect Yang, the sea serpent that brought water to the land people. They believe in constant evolution and change. Couatls as their rite of passage are required to spend their early young adult life traveling the world, and to come back to their tribe with a mastery in a craft. They are the most adaptive species, and also the most cooperative. Unlike the Axolotls, they are more lizard like in appearance. Their preferred temporary homes are usually in the Black Desert, where their god has made a lair in the Oasis of Yang.     Game Statistics Couatls   Gain a +1 in condition and travel checks in dry and hot environments. Conversely cold or humid environments will have a -1 to travel and condition checks.   Couatls are well adapted to desert environments. They can last 2 days without penalties for not drinking water, and 3 without food.   You learn from your mistakes more than others. Whenever you fumble(not other people), get 1 extra fumble point.   While Couatls learn from their mistakes, they can also be incredibly prideful, especially in battle. Start every combat with a +1 to your first attack. When you make a successful hit or cast a successful spell, take a -1 on the next attack or spell after wich the penalty disappears.   Couatls have picked up a bit of every language. If a Couatl would like to keep their discussion secret(for example, scamming a human Trader) they can speak with heavy accent that non-Couatls have trouble understanding. Other creatures must make a successful [SPI + INT] check of 10 to understand the accent.   A Couatl can also have extremely basic conversations with every race except some spirits.     Game Statistics Axolotls   Note, playing an Axolotl will have an impact in how people view you and will be more difficult to RP. You will also take a -1 to the first roll you make with any NPC for any social interaction. This will increase to -2 for each failed roll and so on.   Gain a +1 in condition and travel checks in wet or cold environments or in rain. Conversely dry or hot environments will have a -1 to travel and condition checks.   You can hold your breath up 30 minutes under water, or use your air sack to hold your breath for an hour. Every 10 minutes afterwards will take 1 HP.   Your people are deeply rooted in tradition, requiring all of their young to learn their customs and magic. Choose two spells from any seasons low magic.
