Icewind Dale Final Summary

General Summary

Our adventure took place in Icewind Dale, a region that seems almost out of place in Zor. It is separated by ridge of massive mountains referred to as the Northern Spine. Few people go to Icewind Dale, unless they are desperate to disappear, as the journey is long and perilous. Lately, things had been much worse, as the whole region seemed to be in the grips of an unnaturally long and cruel winter.
Our adventurers came to the Dale in hopes of making their own marks on the world, for good or for ill. They studied exotic species, defeated a supernatural serial killer, and made some potentially powerfull allies.
Unfortunately for them - and the Dale - a Duergar warlord named Xardarok had malicious designs on the Ten-Towns and had begun collecting Chardalyn - a metal infused with demonic power that eventually drives its bearers mad. Our heroes eventually discovered his fortress, but not before he unleashed a massive Chardalyn Dragon upon the Ten-Towns!
Thanks to a timely Heat Metal spell from Wort, the dragon was defeated, but not before it devastated much of the Ten-Towns. Between this incident and a Slaad infestation in the West, the Ten-Towns were reduced to two safe towns - Caer Konig and Bryn Shander. Determined to protect what was left of the towns, the adventurers struck a deal with Levistus to help him transform himself into a dragon in exchange for destroying Auril the Frostmaiden (and bestowing boons on each of them...)
The adventurers first fetched the Codicil of White through a series of harrowing trials in Auril's palace. Next, they set out for the Lost City of Ythryn. On the way, they passed through the Caves of Hunger and narrowly escaped an encounter with the Gnoll Vampire Teke-Li-Li. Now, they are working there way through the city, looking for clues to complete a ritual called the Rite of the Arcane Octad, which will unlock the Mythallar at the center of the city and allow them to fulfill their bargain with Levistus. First, though, they must confront the ghost of Nass Lantomir, who has just been expelled from possessing their leader, Baldric.
The adventurers quickly resolved to dispatch Nass, and with three bolts from Baldric's crossbow her form dispersed. They next ventured to the Tower of Conjuration, where they used their wits (and a bit of telepathy) to solve a riddle and claim the second step in the Rite. They also discovered their former compatriot, Valfiel, trapped in an arcane circle. He claimed to want to help them, but they did not trust him for obvious reasons. They did, however, discover a safehosue in the form of a magical mansion at the top ot the tower - this proved useful as a resting place to ward off the effects of an arcane blight that had slowly turned most of the city's residents into Nothics. Eventually, Avarice realized through her own research that the spell to empower herself using Auril was actually going to use her life force - killing her in the process - to summon Levistus and transform him into a dragon. Just as she was about to take out her wrath on the party, she instead destroyed herself with her staff. It turned out that Nass was still "alive", had possessed Avarice, and was now the only option for completing their deal with Levistus
After securing a new body for Nass and getting the last steps of the Rite of the Arcane Octad, the party defeated Iriolathas, the demilich previously attuned to the Mythallar, and completed the Rite. They used the Mythallar to summon Auril, and after a difficult fight, Nass's ritual was completed (to her surprise, her ghost form was also destroyed during the ritual). Levistus now stood before them as a Sapphire Dragon. With their deal complete, the future of Icewind Dale would be free of Auril's curse.
Caer Konig, led by a newly inspired Trovus, became the new city center of the Dale. After the trials and tribulations of the Ten-Towns destruction, the people were more united than ever before, and rallied around his leadership to create a city worth living in.
Akar became a living being again, Akar spent his days playing Lightning Ball and getting drunk with the restored denizens of Ythryn - the presence of a Sapphire Dragon had removed the Arcane Blight and thus returned the residents from their Nothic Status. Zel went back to Eberron, where they enjoyed a long and quiet retirement after years of weird travels throughout the planes. Wort became the High Priest of Moradin in Ythryn, helping its citizens avoid the tempations that led the city to its original doom. Corwynn went back to Saltmarsh and became a respectable member of the Xendrosi and full partner in HSAK Inc. Zalkin quietly returned to her forest to live out the rest of her undead days, having takien vengeance on Teke-Li-Li. Baldric returned to hunting artifacts, and used Levistus as a regular contact to help identify his finds. He eventually rose to the station of Xendrosi Trade Captain for the City of Sigil.
