Asphodelian

Asphodelian also called the Asphodites are one of the twelve main groups of zodians known for their unanimous worship of Virgo, Goddess Of Purity. They are mostly humans, living on Asphodel and basking in the light of purity. Asphodelian society is one of purity in mind and body they seldom tolerate anything that contradicts that purity known for being involved in many violent crusades to purge the impure from their clergy withholding exorcist sigils, making cerberus endangered, and their templars genocide of the goblins.

The asphodelians typically speak common but Celestial & Elvish are very popular among them.

Culture and cultural heritage

  • Asphodelians are obsessed with radiance and purity ever since celestials came to their rescue during the dark ages.
  • Poison, negative energy, and undead have been a hated thing to the asphodelians ever since the dark ages as they were used to torment and subjugate the people.
  • Asphodelian had a deep prejudice for tieflings and dark elves due to a perceived connection to the dark that kept them down leading to the slums around their cities; this has largely subsided as new leadership arose in the Hagio Church.

  • The asphodelian value light, radiance, and positivity abhorring poison and negative energy, they would never possess the tools of the dark.
  • The asphodelian value purity in body and soul including retaining nature of their bodies valuing the natural process of life itself and adoring races that personified nature, purity and radiance making humans, elves, and haloin the most beloved race among the asphodelians.
  • To maintain their society they all have a role to play; the males are leaders and can become templars, while the females become herbalists and have the capacity to become druids.

Asphodelians use light as their main source for weapons and energy as panels absorb light and turn it into energy, radiant runes give their weapons radiant damage great for dealing with undead and demons.
  • The Radiant Panels: Modeled after the leonian's energy they main means of energy for asphodelians a series of high spires with panels that convert light into energy.
  • The Purity Network: A network of teleportation circles connecting each and every temple, cathedral, & monasteries of the Purity Church.

  • Radiant Straight Sword: A common weapon among asphodelian soldiers adorned in holy runes to give extra radiant damage great against undead and demons.
  • Radiant Broadsword: A higher grade weapon for asphodelian soldiers, a heavier sword that can cut through flesh and demons.
  • Radiant Claymore: The strongest type of sword of the asphodelian templars adorned in holy runes capable of unleashing waves of light.
  • Radiant Longbow: A weapon used by asphodelian ranged soldiers typically elves although human templars use these weapons. The longbow is adorned with holy runes that give the arrows radiant damage.
  • Radiant Scattergun: A rifle weapon used by asphodelian ranged soldiers capable of firing many radiant bolts in a large cone.

Armor

  • Asphodelian Armor: The common armor for asphodelian soldiers is adorned in holy runes & alloyed with titanium and mercury.
  • Asphodelian Plate Armor: A higher grade armor for asphodelian soldiers adorned in holy runes alloyed with titanium and mercury capable of blocking powerful attacks from undead and demons.
  • Asphodelian Shield: A common shield used by asphodelian soldiers adorned in holy runes alloyed with titanium and mercury as well as glass. Asphodelian Shields are round parma shields capable of focusing light into beams.

Siege Weapons 

  • Radiant Sentry Turrets: The most common siege weapon of the asphodelians built during the war against the Soulleal. The Radiant Sentry Turrets are large siege weapons often perched on top of asphodelian walls firing a series of bullets imbued with radiant energy.
  • Radiant Cannons: More advanced siege weapons of asphodelian defense as it takes light and condenses it into a beam.
  • Radiant Railguns: The most advanced siege weapon of the asphodelians made to be an improvement on the Radiant Cannons capable of making radiant blasts that can go for miles and pierce through cities.

Transportation, Vehicles, & Vessels 

  • Feathers: A common asphodelian vehicle capable of holding up to two people and going roughly 130mph.
  • Lumenos: A land based war vehicle used by asphodelians, made of solid steel alloyed with titanium and mercury as well as glass to absorb light. The Lumenos, while slow, was durable and could unleash heavy fire on enemy troops and structures.
  • Dove: An aerial war vehicle used to carry troops during war. The Doves were highly durable, capable of carrying up to 5,000 troops per dove and firing radiant blasts.
  • Griffins: An aerial war vehicle used for offense firing powerful radiant energy bolts and lasers & capable of going 500mph.

Herbalism

  • Vita Potions: Made through the usage of medical herbs like radian lilies capable of high levels of healing sold at a high price among the asphodelians.
  • Adrenal Potions: Supportive potions made through the stresion moss capable of activating an adrenaline rush in those who drink it.
  • Antitoxin: A powerful potion that purges poison from the user's system.

Common Etiquette rules

Asphodelians often have the following sayings to their peers: "May the light guide you", "May you remain in purity", & "The light shines for all who are pure".

Asphodelians often wear pristine white & gold clothing to exemplify purity.

Art

  • Asphodelian art is typically paintings of natural landscapes and shows of purity. Asphodelian statues are made of stone & quicksilver adorned in asphodelus sapphire, carnelian, peridot, moss agate, & tourmaline.

Architecture

  • Asphodelian architecture is meant to show radiance, majesty, & purity their cities are made with carven stone trimmed with glistening mercury. Asphodelus, Pure Bloom, & Light Daisies adorn the city streets and buildings. Where there is a light there is a shadow the underground of asphodelian cities are built with an underground meant for those who were unworthy of basking in the light although ever since Raziel took command all races where allowed to live on the surface.

Foods & Cuisine

Asphodelian food and cuisine is very popular around the world for its purity and grand taste. Peasants often eat bread and the fruit of the purity trees.

  • Hagio Pudding: A famous pastry made with hagio fruit and the jelly of oozes.
  • Owlbear Buns: A famous pastry made from Owlbear flesh. This food is often used in festivals and restaurants.
  • Dove Cakes: A famous pastry made with sweet fruits. It's white & puffy like the doves they love.
  • Venison Burgers: Burgers made from factory farmed deer found in Asphodel.
  • Venison Steak: Steak made from the deer of Asphodel. Its seasoning & juiciness is popular in Asphodel.

Asphodelian Wine & Alcohol

  • Purity's Embrace: The most popular alcoholic beverage to Asphodelians. It's made from the nectar of the shine flower & other ingredients. It has a sweet taste and is known to only make you intoxicated if you're impure.
  • Garden Brew: A popular drink made with herbal ingredients and known for its sour taste.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • Asphodelians females, usually humans, elves, & half-elves are known to garden many plants and flowers specifically for decoration and herbalism using it to make potions and other substances.
  • They are known to tame doves as they are sacred to the Hagio Church and Virgo keeping them as pets and messenger birds, they also tame High Doves to use as aerial mounts in combat.
  • Many asphodelians take a vow of chastity to preserve their purity.
  • Asphodelians are known to use mercury as a component in their infrastructure due to Virgo's influence.
  • Templars and other soldiers of Asphodel are put in different roles depending on their race; humans are knights, while elves are more magical combatants.
  • Haloin are typically given high positions of leadership as military leaders & leaders in society.
  • A holiday of the Asphodelians called "The Shining Rite" occurs once a year during the summer worshiping the light and radiance to venerate Virgo.
  • An old tradition of the Asphodelians came from the fallen Dark Hunt Decree was the hunting of various monsters, chimeric beasts, and various races that wasn't worthy of the light manticores, griffins, chimeras, goblins, kobolds, many would either be forced into slums or culled this tradition was stopped by Rezyl and all who partake in this were sentenced to prison.

Asphodelians humans, elves, half-elves, & haloin are baptized in holy water glistening with light to birth them in light.

Coming of Age Rites

Asphodelians when they become adolescents are tasked with making doves come to them perched on their arm to show the purity that rests in their souls.

Asphodelians when they die are buried in cemeteries warded from resurrection and necromancy, adorned in flowers and carnelian Initially it was only human, half-elves, elves, & haloin who would be buried in cemeteries but now everyone has the right to burial.

  • Asphodelians hate poison and necromancy, it's of the dark and evil to them.
  • To have relations before marriage is to taint their souls and be unworthy of Virgo's radiance.
  • Asphodelians used to have prejudice against tieflings and drow and to associate with them was taboo as it's seen as dancing with the devil.

  • It's believed that Asphodelians are prejudiced towards drow & tiefling because of their connection to darkness.
  • The Asphodelians believe that light and radiance is sacred and that only through it will they be capable of being worthy of the light.

Divine

Virgo, Goddess Of Purity

The patron goddess of the Asphodelians is a being of light and radiance favoring humanity for their purity and potential. Virgo is worshiped through the Hagio Church giving them their divine gifts and culture.

Meadowna Family

Aerafel Meadowna, The Shining One

The founder and first leader of the Hagio Church controlling the asphodelians for thousands of years alongside his wife Physis. Aerafel was known for his devotion to Virgo and the light as a whole having a history of preserving it through any means necessary being responsible for ordering the genocide of the goblins and attempted genocide of the fiends. Despite his angelic prejudice he held close to his principles and was adored by the asphodelians for his devotion to the cause.

Physis Meadowna, The Garden Queen

The wife of Aerafel and was the queen of the asphodelians for as long as her husband.○ She was famed for her ability to grow plants and flowers for medical purposes making their culture of adoring herbs other than toxic plants. Physis was also known for her disdain for tieflings and drow crafting a means of dealing with all of them just to end a few rebellious ones going against her convictions to make nerve agents that could only harm them. She was assassinated before this plan could be carried out and slain by the thundamite king Thor.

Rezyl Meadowna, The Prince Of Light

The younger brother of Aerafel more benevolent than his older brother thought of as too weak to rule. Raziel wasn't going to let his opinions of his people keep him down or the people of the slums becoming a secret vigilante to aid the people in any way he could. Upon the death of his brother and sister in law he took control of the Hagio Church and became the new leader of the asphodelians alongside his wife Demeter.

Demeter Meadowna, The Queen Of Harvest

Once regarded as a lawless vigilante with no regard for Virgo's radiance as she was an issue to Aerafel as she stole from the surface to give to the people of the slums. She eventually joined forces with Raziel and then became his wife and by extension the new queen of the Asphodelians being able to help those mistreated by the clergy in a more official way.

Samiel Hunil, The Blade Of Radiance

An archon who led the Order Of Radiance during the Shadow War out with his leadership the templars won many battles. He followed Aerafel's orders to the letter to purify the lands being responsible for slaying many goblins and others who opposed the light.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Asphodelians see light and radiance as beautiful as well as the natural growth of life. The beauty of nature, the natural process of life, & the radiance of the heavens as well as those who fly in the heavens are what enamors the asphodelians.

Gender Ideals

In Asphodelian society the males are warriors & leaders of the clergy often being leaders of temples and cathedrals while females remain behind them as aid.

Courtship Ideals

Asphodelians don't delve into the amorous on a whim as people of purity they must forge a connection holy in the eyes of Virgo. The male courts the female through their kindness and generosity showing their purest self.

Relationship Ideals

In Asphodelian society the male is the provider and protector in the relationship and the female is supportive in the relationship. The bond they share is holy in the eyes of Virgo and to be protected.

Major organizations

  • The Hagio Church: The main theocratic government of the asphodelians founded by Aerafel Meadowna and was led by him for the most of asphodelian history. It's through the Hagio Church that asphodelians achieve status in their society.
  • The Order Of Radiance: The Templar Order & military of the Asphodelians led by Samiel Hunil a Haloin who ascended to archon. The Order Of Radiance have been a driving force of order to the asphodelians ever since the war with the Soulleal they spared no cultist as they sullied the light and the people it shines on.
  • The Mercury Lords: An elite group of warriors who defend the Meadowna Family, a division of the Mercurous.
  • The Mercurous: A division of the Order Of Radiance that acts as the guard of asphodelian settlements.
  • The Iron Lords: Once a famous division of the Order Of Radiance for their work slaying devils for the asphodelians in their pursuit to become celestials. They were lead by a mighty human paladin named Rhodes although the Iron Angels fell from grace after the Iron Massacre when they conducted an unsanctioned attack on the Cromwell Monastery slaying all 30,000 monks of the monastery but where exiled from asphodel and cursed to infertility by Virgo.
  • Circle Of Meadows: A druidic circle that operates in Asphodel formerly led by Physis Meadowna but now led by Demeter. The druids are rarely seen in the cities of Asphodel due to their work of maintaining the land and protecting it from other threats. The Circle Of Meadows grows many plants for the asphodelians and their show of purity.
  • House Neuralgia: A Noble House that was once very popular among the asphodelians for their ability to go through people's minds allowing them to have a crime syndicate going for a while. Through their psychic miracles they could gain a lot of information for the asphodelians but ultimately left when Gardenia was constructed for an opportunity to be immortal and have eternal control.
