The ancestral Drow Nest is a serene place, untouched by the greed and striving which have enthralled the Surface Drow. Its slow pace attracts Drow from all walks of life—those seeking peaceful contemplation, to pay respects to their heritage, or to simply be captivated by the atmosphere. With such expansive labyrinthine networks, finding a space to oneself is an easy task. There is more to see than could ever be seen.

The Nest houses no structures; any spaces needed for storage were carved and worn into the walls, and the sleeping areas, large and communal, are constructed from the sponges and aquatic mosses that grow in the winding rivers. The beds dry quickly, even in the wet cave air. The Subterranean Drow eat their fish fresh from the water and dispose of any remains in designated areas, so there is also no need for food preparation.

Infrastructure

Once swarming with life, the caverns now stand mostly derelict, though not unloved. Their residents carefully maintain the stability and integrity of the formations in sensitive areas by limiting the number of entrees and ensuring their supervision at all times. Such sensitive areas are the exception, however, and so most of the vast space is free for exploration.

Even after so many generations of inhabitants, countless tunnels and crevices remain undocumented. There is no treasure to find except that of unspoiled nature, which, for the right explorer, is the greatest treasure of all. When delving into regions yet unmarked for direction, great care must be taken not to get lost. Despite numerous companions across the seemingly endless tunnels, a careless adventure may never be found.

The caverns and tunnels carry sounds over longer distances than can be traversed in a reasonable amount of time. The first generations of Drow took advantage of this characteristic to develop a system of communication consisting basically of shouting messages along a relay—a reasonably effective, albeit crude, method.
