Temple of Zivaria

A newly-built temple in the middle of the small halfling town of Greenwell.

History

The temple was built relatively recently (within the last 200-300 years) on the point where modern scholars and priests now believe to be where Zivaria, the Creator Goddess began the creation of the universe. This is highly contested in academic circles, as the Hearth of Zivaria is a megalithic temple which also boasts the same claim, although evidenced by much earlier construction, perhaps an Age ago, if not more.   The construction of the temple was generously and loudly funded by the Fernhorn Family.

The newly finished temple compound is a masterpiece of halfling ingenuity, towering over the heart of the town, yet embodying their characteristic warmth and charm, a perfect marriage of functionality and artistry. Its towering facade is dominated by a colossal, rose-shaped stained-glass window, a kaleidoscope of colors depicting the moment of creation. As the sun moves through the sky, the window casts vibrant hues onto the temple's pale marble and polished limestone walls, gleaming in the sunlight, their intricate carvings depicting scenes of the goddess shaping stars and mountains. The central spire rises like a needle into the heavens, capped with a golden orb that catches the light and seems to glow at all hours, and the interior nave stretches equally high, with ribbed vaults that converge to form a celestial map of gold-leaf constellations. Flying buttresses sweep outward from the nave, creating an impression of delicate lacework made from stone. Stained glass windows, each pane a symphony of color, depict cosmic moments of creation, with light pouring through them to scatter rainbows across the polished floors within. Every inch of the space is carefully designed to inspire awe, from the carved wooden pews that resemble ancient roots to the polished marble altar, said to rest directly above the pinpoint where creation began.   Encircling the temple are meticulously manicured gardens, where saplings of ancient trees are planted as a nod to the goddess’s primal works, divided by narrow canals fed by a sophisticated aqueduct system. Halfling artisans have taken great pride in the stonework of the surrounding structures, creating arches and colonnades that echo ancient designs while incorporating sleek modern lines. The temple compound feels both timeless and forward-looking, a testament to the halfling people's reverence for both their goddess and the innovative spirit she inspired. The compound includes a scholarly library with rounded domes and glass skylights, a place for contemplation and the study of the world. The fusion of traditional halfling craftsmanship with avant-garde techniques, such as vaulted ceilings supported by weightless-looking arches, speaks to a desire to reach beyond their modest origins and pay homage to the divine spark that brought existence into being.
