Character Creation

See the Player’s Guide for details about character creation. Here are the highlights.

Loyalty

The PCs are all constables in the RHC, so they have all passed a background check and magical inquisition to verify their loyalty to Risur, no matter where they are from originally.

Level

PCs start the campaign at level 3.

Race

There are two campaign-specific PC races: Deva and Eladrin. See the Player’s Guide for details, and see here for instructions on using these races on Roll20.

All of the races you can find in the Roll20 game are available except:

  • Drow
  • Warforged
  • Dragonmarked races

The variant human from the PHB may be used. (This gets a feat and a skill but fewer ability boosts at 1st level.)

Class

All of the classes in the Roll20 game should be fine, but if you want to take some weird subclass from Beppo's Book of Burrowing Creatures, please consult the GM.

Artificers are proficient with firearms.

Theme

Themes are basically campaign-related background feats. Select one from the list in the Player’s Guide.

Note that these themes are not selectable in the Roll20 character sheet. Just add the theme's name to the "Features & Traits" section and we'll figure out how to make it work.

Each theme has a prestige class that may be taken later, if you wish.

Languages

Every PC gets Primordial as a bonus language. Primordial is the language of Risur. Some people also speak Common.

No-one can speak Abyssal or Celestial, but there are a few people who can understand Infernal (scholars, cultists, and demon hunters).

Equipment

Characters get the normal first-level starting equipment. In addition, each PC has an RHC constable’s uniform.

Additional equipment will be available during the first adventure.

Religions & Deities

If your character needs a deity, see the “Key Religions” section near the end of the Player’s Guide for a list of religions in Lanjyr. There are only 4 of them, and one, the Clergy, probably isn’t appropriate for PCs because it would conflict with loyalty to Rissur.

Alternatively, you may choose an appropriate deity from a D&D pantheon. It’ll probably be fine in the Zeitgeist setting.
