Watchers of Ouvezia
The Watchers of Ouvezia guard Ouvezian daily life and guide the denizens of Ouvezia through the vagaries of time. After Lamariou's hazardous trip to their promised land and the dramatic death of the old guardians, the spirits that had guided them for as long as they could remember, slowly new Guardians found their way into the hearts and minds of the Ouvezian people.
The first to find them was She-Who-Opens-The-Door with her partner, They-Who-Trade-The-Breath. It was the sacrifice of the old spirits and of Coventé that allowed for Lamariou and her people to start a new life, and while they celebrated She-Who-Opens-The-Door first with the birth of Lamariou's and Coventé's child, they were always aware of the Two-Faced Goddess and their blessings. Never welcome for the prey, but a life-saver for the predator, They represent the ancient trade of life for life, breath for breath, warmth for warmth.
Soon, the Dawn Watcher's sister, The Weaver of Threads found their home among them and taught them about unity, loyalty, about caring for each other and about shared revelry. She brought her partner, the Keeper of Echoes, to ensure the important memories would be woven into the Weaver's tapestries, and whose priests are keeper of knowledge and teachers.
His sister slipped in almost unnoticed, but such is the way of the Hidden Root. The Unseen is her domain, the unspeakable secrets are hers for safekeeping and defending. Where her brother makes sure the knowledge does not get lost, she takes care of what should not be remembered. Where the Dawn Watcher governs the thresholds to the future, the Dusk Watcher guards the thresholds to the past.
Almost as unnoticed as the Root was the emergence of the Fire-Within-Stone, the Hand-That-Makes and the Mourning Mother - those seemingly mundane, quiet, everyday Watchers were felt and revered long before they were recognized. They are considered the children of She-Who-Opens-The-Door and the Two-Faced Goddess. To this day, Ouvezians are a people that values action over words and appreciates the small things over grand gestures, and their watchers reflect that.
Still, every tribe needs defenders, and the adherents of the Blood-Taken Path strive to emulate Coventé - ready to sacrifice and spill blood, but never eager to hurt. While more men than women follow His path, all are welcome if they feel called, and together they form a tight-knit community where everyone can rely on their peers. After all, the Bloody Watcher is the son of the Weaver of Threads and like His mother, he is committed to the community they harbor.
Last but not least, the Star-Treader emerged as the final member of the pantheon, when the Ouvezian people started exploring. Formerly bound by the sheer walls of the Slumbering Heights, their newfound freedom in all directions had many of Lamarious followers itching to travel, and until today their Wanderlust isn't satisfied. And all this time, the Starry Watcher has been their guide and connection back to home, to the place the old spirits gifted them as thanks.
