Session 87 Entering the Tome of the Broken Sun

General Summary

Session Recap: Into the Tomb of the Shattered Sun

After a tense encounter outside the ziggurat with a powerful Efreeti and four Dust Goblins, the Companions of Shining Eclipse descended into the ancient and half-buried Tomb of the Shattered Sun. With only the upper tier of the ziggurat visible above the dunes, the group has no sense of its full scale or age—only that its architecture feels timeless and ominous.

Led by Conan, the party located the hidden entrance, but triggered a trap of eight spring-loaded spears as they entered. Fortunately, no one was harmed—a sign either of great luck or divine protection.

Inside, the first chamber tested more than their bodies. The group came face to face with eight jackal-headed warrior statues, each lifelike and armored in ancient bronze, khopesh blades poised with reverent stillness. The statues were clearly a trial or warning, paired with an ominous riddle.

  • Dimmir and Dagon, exercising caution and intuition, closed their eyes and passed through the corridor in silence, showing the deference the riddle required.
  • Karrin, ever faithful to Asgorath, proudly declared her allegiance—triggering the trap.

The statues animated as Helmed Horrors, immune to many of the party’s abilities and resistances. A fierce battle followed, testing the group’s strength and strategy. Eventually, the party emerged victorious—scarred but standing.

The next room held a blood basin and another riddle, hinting at an offering. Through careful thought and arcane insight, Arceven and Conan deciphered the meaning and chose not to shed unwilling blood. Their wisdom spared the party from a deadly encounter with three dormant mummies that would have awakened had they acted rashly.

Further inside, the party discovered a dusty archive, much of it lost to time. But among the crumbling scrolls were legible pages penned by Death Lord Abraham Harker himself.

  • The scrolls described the interrogation and torture of "Puff", with disturbing mentions of a Mermaid Island and cryptic references to someone—or something—named Stormwalker.
