While its continents and oceans are vast, our story unfolds primarily in the region known as the Five Seas, a great basin of warring kingdoms, mystical islands, and Forgotten empires that serves as the cradle of modern civilization. To understand this region is to understand the soul of the age.

Aithyris is an old world, a world in its long autumn. The glories of past ages now stand as haunting ruins, and the stories of god-like beings and legendary heroes are whispered as myths around tavern hearths. A fragile peace, forged in the fires of a devastating civil war a half-century ago, holds a tenuous grip on the great nations. The ambitious, resilient humans of kingdoms like Therysia rebuild and remember, while the long-lived, elegant shandaryn of ancient . Vesprians watch the turning of the ages with a wisdom born of millennia. Beyond their great cities Vespria, in the deep woods and beneath the mountains, live the enigmatic, fey orfian and the steadfast, stone-like klash-kal, each with their own secrets and histories.

In this world, what is often called "magic" is understood by the wise as an interaction with the Song —the divine symphony that is the very fabric of reality. Those with the gift can learn to "hear" the music of the universe and "perform" their will upon it, creating wonders and horrors alike.
