Sanctuary
The location is known as both Sanctuary and Haven. Which is it? Technically, both are wrong. The pocket dimension is called Sanctuary Junction and is a Junction of many Paths. The Outlands are desert, much like the Southwest United States on Earth. At the center, sits the town of Haven around the only well around. (The Well is large and bubbles with water from some underground source. The garden fountain in the Abbey of the Sanctuary Sisters feeds from the same source.) Many paths lead in and out of the desert, though there are a few in town, as well. So, which is the correct name? It depends.
Haven town is reminiscent of a town found throughout the Old West of 19th century Earth. Mostly wooden buildings along a main thoroughfare with a saddler, smithy/farrier, stables, jail, sheriff's office, Marshal's post, trading post/general store, tailor's shop, a haberdashery and cobbler shop, a saloon, inn, brothel, and a few churches of various denominations. At the north end, the main thoroughfare (simply called Main Street by the locals) terminates at the Town Square which is a bit of a misnomer since the Square is actually round. A large wooden gazebo sits at its center. The Square is used for everything from town meetings to public entertainment. Main Street continues again across the Square, but it is called North Street here. That continues until it comes to the Big Rock. A cross road then travels east and west. To the west, one comes to the Abbey of the Sanctuary Sisters. To the east, a few small houses and some local farmsteads.
From the square, another east-west artery crosses. To the west, Sunset Street, there is a small park and a number of moderately-sized houses. This area is known as the Old Quarter and is the expensive part of town. To the east from the Square is Sunrise Street, leading to much smaller houses, a tenement hotel, a drug den, a far less reputable brothel than found on Main Street, and a seedy, back-alley pub frequented by scoundrels and malcontents. Most call this region of town the Den.
The Mayor and Council
Sounds much more formal than it is. The Mayor is a man best described as a fantasy dwarf. He owns the gold mine to the south of town and employs most of the locals. He's been Mayor for the last century or so and generally runs unopposed in the mayoral election that takes place every five years. He is called Horst Goldhammer.
The Council are some of the town elders, mainly Horst's wife, Utta, the Sheriff, the Innkeeper Silas Martin, and the haberdasher Miss Penny (no last name known).
The Sheriff
In town, the Sheriff is the law and is reelected every five years along with the mayor (and likewise hasn't changed in a very long time). The current sheriff is Clayton "Clay" Henry, a strapping 40-ish man built like a bulldogger and dresses for the part from his black cowboy hat to his well-worn cowboy boots. He appears human, save for some cybernetic enhancements and prostheses. Both arms and shoulders are cybernetic, expertly crafted, and made of an unidentified silvery metal. Additionally, his entire right eye socket is a silvery metal patch with a glowing red light at the center and sits across a larger scar angling from the center of his forehead to his right cheek. He carries no weapons, though it's common knowledge among the locals that they're integrated into his arms.
The Marshals
The town of Haven is also the headquarters of the Marshals, who attempt to enforce some laws across the Realms. Some call them glorified bounty hunters.
