Grag

The grags are the keepers of dwarven lore. They do not derive their authority from the gods or from right of birth. They speak only with the voice of tradition, and not even the thanes dare to contradict them.

Back in the old days, any grag on the field of battle was a prime target. But with their mind tricks, we could never be sure whether it was really a grag, or a psychic trap. Nowadays, I hear that the earth dwarves of the Zone hate the grags as much as we did!

The grags of the Ironspike Mountains keep the lore and set the laws of the leading dwarven civilization, the Kingdom of Nathal-nalir. They keep an iron grip on that responsibility, shouting down any who challenge their authority. They are the final arbiters of what is and is not dwarvish.

The so-called Earth dwarves of the Kirinal Concordance Zone resent the grags who originally exiled them to the "dirt". Now the lowland dwarves of the Zone are the ones who increasingly raise their voices against the grags.

The earth dwarves accuse the grags of spending too much time in the deepest vaults under the mountains. They say that they are rotten with Underdark spores and that they truly serve the dark rulers of the Far Realm.

In response, the grags cough dustily and deny the accusations.
