Fair Play

The town of Fair Play sits on the easternmost edge of the Kirinal Concordance Zone. Built around the St. Amaston Train Station, it serves as the primary gateway to the Holy Duchy of Amaston and the Vitran Sea. I know it well, I travel through this busy border town several times a year on my way to Amaston and the Soul Forge itself.

I like visiting Fair Play because of all the Isekai that end up living there. They all come from that dirt-world called Earth, but somehow there's lot of different ones! Who'd a thunk such a dumb-sounding world would have so many versions! They've got some great culture! There's this thing called "rocking roll" that really gets my boots stompin'!

Fair Play is a bustling border town where multiversal travelers, merchants, and soulforged soldiers cross paths. It grew up around the St. Amaston Train Station to become one of the largest Outer Ring towns. Caravans and cargo trains move through its yards, carrying goods and pilgrims between the Concordance and the Holy Duchy of Amaston. Warehouses, staging grounds, and market halls fill the commercial district along with the workers who labor in them.

The town also serves as a hub for the faithful. Visitors for the Day of Heaven flood the streets and fill the inns. It's proximity to the Ki-Rin Forest and the Empyrean Ki-rin Monastery make it a logical destination for those who want to visit all three holy locations on the same trip.

People of Fair Play

Along with the Anamites and soulforged traveling east for pilgrimages and service, Fair Play hosts an unusually high population of Isekai, refugees and travelers from other worlds, especially various versions of the world known as Earth. The collision of cultures has created a unique hybrid of traditions, cuisine, fashion, and especially music.

In Fair Play, the taverns hum with strange harmonies: electric guitars, synthetic pianos, and perucssion machines. The songs of Isekai bards echo throughout the Zone, and debates over how those songs "go back home" can last all night.

In my world, the song was "Tastes Like Teen Spirit." In yours it was "Smells Like"? That makes no sense!

Woo-hoo! This is my first WorldEmber read of 2025 and it's got Burt Bocain in it?! I feel like I've won already. What's his version of "Come As You Are" called? And how does he like being married to Bourtney Dove? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm going to have to add Burt Bocain as a character now! I do love imagining that a version of him lives on happily in the Zone. Not sure Bourtney made it through with him... hmmm. Maybe that's why he's still with us?? Now all I want to do is come up with alternate versions of my favorite songs and bands!
