Nayong

Nayong, or ‘United City’, is the capital of the Sacred League of Xuanteng, located on the Dragon Island of the Kracon Archipelago.

Demographics

Species

The majority of the Fractures (peoples native to Kracon) who live in Nayong are Thropians and Foxes. There are about 23,000 Thropians of varying heritage, mostly felithropes, cervithropes, and avinthropes, who work as artisans and public servants. There are perhaps 10,000 Foxes of varying age, though they skew towards the younger side, mostly working at printing houses, fishing companies, and construction firms. The remaining Fracture population is made up of approximately 9,000 centaurs, working mainly in the transportation and communications sector, and 8,000 merpeople living in the underwater sector as stonemasons and shipbuilders. There are a few long dragon residents as well, though most of the very small population of these beings have no registered residence.

Most of the registered foreign residents are elemental or dwarven merchants who live in Nayong full- or most-of-the-time. There are about 950 elementals, 600 dwarves, and 350 elves registered as residents of Nayong.

Government

The Mayor of Nayong is directly elected by all registered residents, Fracture or foreign, as long as they have lived in the city for at least two years, eight months out of the ten per year. The mayor serves three years, up to three terms.

The first mayor, Tianjing of Calm, was a long dragon appointed by the reunified League to build a new capital city. The first elected mayor was Yuan Sung, a centaur who expanded the merpeople’s underwater district near the harbor and ordered that foreigners be allowed to naturalize in Nayong, a first for the reunited League. The current mayor, Tsuak Ikro, is a fox of four tails in the second year of her term.

Infrastructure

Nayong is a wonder of modern design, rebuilt from ruins after the Broken Civil War under the guidance of the long dragons. All streets radiate out from the harbor in a ‘shining flower bud’ design, including in the underwater district.

The Harbor itself is the pride of Nayong, with twenty piers, each big enough to moor the biggest warship, and a great defensive wall built from underwater Living Marble, a self-healing stone only obtainable by merpeople and aquatic thropians. The massive gate in this wall is built in the style of the City of Flickering Lights: crowned with spines and embellished with the crest of the Sacred League.

Within the Production district are several renowned factories, printing-houses, and other such facilities, including the Tanse Ink Distillery, the Ryu & Sons Great Mill, and the Lau-Sen-and-Company Furnacehouse.

Throughout all the districts, Nayong’s famous tram system runs. With rails set into the streets, a web of magic-carrying wires above, and carriages painted blue, red, and gold, the public tram is the pride of all citizens. The wire web uses Alloy-enriched sunsteel to transfer Eldic from the Rianteng Waterdam into the engines of the tram carriages, in a flow that is controlled by the levers in the operator’s booth.

History

Nayong was founded on the same day the Sacred League of Xuanteng was founded, by Xuanteng themself. The long dragon of Ambition wanted to end the pointless wars between the Shattered people, and so they began slowly convincing the disparate settlements to join this newfound Confederation of the Stars.
