Thunderpoint
Located within the North American Republic, Thunderpoint is a city that thrives even as lightning bursts across the sky. Ever covered in darkness, sometimes with rain that lasts for days or with no rain to speak of, the skyline is always alight by the distant cry of thunder. With a massive power plant reaching up high in the midst of the city; it's been able to survive the harshest of conditions caused by The Withering, even as the land around it floods near endlessly...
Demographics
A majority of the inhabitants of Thunderpoint can be split into two categories: Younger folks or electrical engineers that have been in the field for several years. The prevalence of the latter group allows for the maintenance and upkeep of the whole area, while the younger folks are able to help provide and upkeep in other areas such as working in restaurants or entertainment areas. On the magical side of things, it's common for any practicing Arcanist in the area to be leaning towards the element of Electricity.
Government
As with other cities found within the North American Republic, the government answers to the Grand Jury Administration, a court of which is composed of dozens of "Jurors" that are intended to enact the will of the people. The actual identities of these Jurors are anonymous, and that extends to the Jurors that have been chosen to serve Thunderpoint; of which there are four. These four Jurors are responsible for determining what needs funding and work within Thunderpoint, as well as determining the laws to be upheld in the area.
A vote for a new Juror is held every 2 years, though for Thunderpoint, no vote has passed since 2036.
Infrastructure
The Power Plant
Within the center of Thunderpoint is a massive tower that serves as the town's power plant, generating enough energy to keep all of the homes, industries, and commercial buildings functioning without issue. It was originally constructed and ran by Horizons and as such, makes heavy use of technological and magical advancements made by the company. Nowadays, it's managed by the Thunderpoint Engineering Team, handpicked by the Jurors.
The functioning of the Power Plant is essentially the reasoning for why there are a constant barrage of thunderstorms. The mechanism within the Power Plant uses a carefully maintained and complex combination of Edenite Batteries, water turbines, lighting rod redirection cables, and transformers to create a very powerful source of energy. However, this setup generates massive amounts of Mana and Steam, and has to be pumped out continuously at the top of the structure. Due to this, however, this results in the constant formation of rain and thunderstorms due to the residual effects of Mana.
In effect, this tower could be considered to be a weather machine. Thanks to The Withering, however, the runoff of mana and steam released by the tower has increased by an extraordinary amount, of which cannot be controlled, and of which cannot be shut down. Although it's stable for now, the system requires constant maintenance to remain stable.
The City Itself
All the buildings constructed around Thunderpoint are tall and segmented, with homes and shops stacked one atop of the other. As such, Thunderpoint is effectively a layered city, requiring the use of bridges, stairways, inclined roads and elevators to travel up and down the tall buildings. Affixed to the top of the buildings are Lightning Rods that are meant to absorb the brunt of the electrical blasts that are emitted from the sky, redirecting the energy to the power plant.
With the nature of Thunderpoint's power plant releasing a heavy amount of rainwater, scattered throughout Thunderpoint are various grates that drain the water down to a reservoir beneath the city, of which it is then filtered back into the main system of the power plant. Any excess water is expelled into an artificial river that surrounds Thunderpoint, of which is connected to various aquaducts found along the length of it, stretching out to other cities miles away from Thunderpoint.
Climate
Aside from the obvious of it continually storming and raining around Thunderpoint, there are various things that are to be kept in consideration about the climate around it. Purple Hazes tend to rarely occur here, for one thing, and oftentimes the heat is dampened by the constant flooding of rain. It's often extremely humid, especially as one gets to the lower layers of the city. At the outskirts of Thunderpoint, typically above the artificial river surrounding it, Inverse Rain will frequently occur, which has helped in keeping the risk of excess water low, especially during the Summer months.
During the winter-time, Thunderpoint will be hit by heavy blizzards instead of rain. When this happens, the upper layers of Thunderpoint are shut down, with businesses and homes oftentimes having to be left unattended for long periods of time, only watched over by Machina or Reptilia. Efforts have been ongoing since 2047 to properly reinforce the upper layers of Thunderpoint, but this process is not expected to be completed until 2051.
