Ulric Heartvale
King Ulric Heartvale
Ulric Heartvale was the previous Monarch before his untimely death in the Winter Plague in 1346. He was married to Cecily Heartvale, the mother of his daughter Princess Ophelia Heartvale. Ulrics rule was considered one of the most peaceful Knotside had ever seen as he worked on making sure the gap between noble and laborer was as close as possible to ensure all his citizens happiness. When he was first married to Cecily Heartvale they had tried for a baby for months, and the months turned to years, and when his wife was declared barren by the palace physician he was shut out as she withdrew into a spiraling depression. The Magestrium, General, and other high ranking nobles pressured the King for an heir through any means necessary to avoid the Heartvale line dying with him. Ulric, despite his misgivings, eventually was convinced to bear a bastard child, with Cecilys blessing. Ulric never did regret the act though as it led to the birth of what he had originally thought would be his only heir and daughter, Aleksandra Heartvale. His marriage blossomed anew in the light of their new babe, and he raised Aleksandra from birth as the sole heir to the Heartvale line.
After a decade of normalcy with the lights of his life, Cecily and Aleksandra, a surprise came along that nobody in the entirety of the city could have predicted. To the King and the Kingdoms surprise, Cecily bore a child of her own, the Princess Ophelia. Ulric raised both daughters as he was, to be proud Heartvales and caring rulers who wanted their citizens to prosper no matter their race or background. Second chances were the greatest gift one could give, and looks were deceiving. Wise lessons he imparted on his children, all the more important when Cecily died from unknown causes while Ophelia was still a small child. She had always been a sickly woman, smaller, slighter than others. The physician said her heart had weakened over the years, until it finally gave out. He mourned with his daughters, and then looked to what he dreamed was a brighter future. He had hoped to see his children continue to grow, to see Aleksandra grow into a brave young woman, to see Ophelia take the crown and continue his work, but the Winter Plague had other ideas. Now he rests in the family crypt with his dearest Cecily.
