Forgaron

The Beacon, The Light in the Dark, The Hope Against Hope, The Hopeless Hopeful

It is widely known and accepted that Forgaron was one of the most powerful gods before the Great Purge, concerned mainly with Justice. Seeing him now one would be hard pressed to believe that. After the Purge, Forgaron is but a shadow of his former self, stripped of almost all his power and much more than that.

The story of his downfall has become known by the god himself, not so much as a cautionary tale, but more as tale of hope. It involves his before-the-Purge rival, Illodan, a god whose portfolio in no longer known, and their inability to decisively conclude their conflict. It would seem that in his bid for supremacy, Illodan came to Tremo with threats of violence. Naturally The Timid One caved immediately and revealed that he had foreseen a great catastrophe nearing. This, it turned out, was actually the Great Purge, but even Tremo had failed to realize the entire scope of the approaching disaster and merely offered it to Illodan as a handy distraction to exploit, in order to strike Forgaron down. Ironically it was that stressful encounter with Illodan that drove Tremo to seek out Aiyonia for comfort and support and ended up saving him.

Armed with this knowledge, Illodan set a trap for Forgaron and executed his attack just as the beginning pangs of the Purge were felt. The ambush was well executed, and the damage inflicted was near fatal, but then the true magnitude of the Great Purge was revealed. In a twist of fate, the shockwave of the death of Kanlyn and the sundering of magic obliterated Illodan just as he marshaled his arcane power to deliver the final blow. Forgaron was spared that grisly fate by virtue of being powerless at that exact moment. Instead, he was mauled by the destructive energies, his body shattered beyond repair, and most of his strength, both physical and magical, stripped from him for good. He was left a crippled husk of his former self with only hope to keep him alive.

Tenets of Faith

Forgaron advocates blind hope, even in the face of overwhelming odds. He is, however, aware of reality and urges his followers to not ignore the facts of a situation and accept their circumstances, even as they maintain their optimism. Thus, his teachings demand one stays always hopeful, but they do not enforce action based on false hope. Rather, the point is to remain hopeful to the bitter end.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Forgaron is a god on the brink of destruction. He is the deity of hope not because of his unbending will or his unflinching optimism, but because he has no other choice. Injured beyond healing, he is slipping ever closer to his final demise. There seems to be no way to arrest that downward spiral, but by continuing to strive for a solution, The Hopeless Hopeful has at least managed to delay his death. It would seem that, in some cases, hoping alone is enough to sustain, and The Beacon has no intention of stopping.

Forgaron is largely ignored by most other gods as irrelevant, despite his sizable follower base. He is on good terms with Tal'Thin'Dal mainly because their outlook is very similar, but other than that The Light in the Dark is simply left alone.
