Nerrisa Ravencroft

Overview

Nerrisa Ravencroft is a charismatic businesswoman and the former owner of a whimsical candy factory tucked away in the Mistmire Swamp. Known for her fashionable appearance, graceful poise, and a hauntingly beautiful singing voice, she built a reputation as a generous patron of the arts and a beloved provider of sweets throughout the region. Her influence attracted both eager employees and desperate travelers looking for work—or simply a warm meal and a roof.   Though eccentric, Nerrisa was widely seen as a recluse with a flair for dramatic entrances. Her striking clothing, penchant for shadowy elegance, and thematic obsession with sweets made her a recognizable figure among regional merchants. Her factory operated on a mix of charm and secrecy, drawing curiosity from travelers, including those connected to the notorious organization known as the Fatalities.

Appearance

In her public form, Nerrisa appeared as a refined young woman with waist-length violet-black hair tied in ribbons, feathered adornments, and finely tailored outfits of black, white, and indigo hues. Her wide skirts, puffed sleeves, and lacy collars gave her a doll-like quality. Often seen carrying a lacquered parasol or a staff crowned with carved sugar-spun motifs, she exuded elegance and an eerie sweetness.

Public Persona

Nerrisa ran her candy factory with an air of showmanship, inviting guests into the sugary-smelling halls with choreographed hospitality. She occasionally held musical performances, and tales circulate of children and travelers alike being lulled by her singing. Some believed she had noble blood due to her refined accent and bearing.   She maintained few connections outside the swamp but was known to have trade ties to those trafficking unusual magical items, sweets, and spell components. Despite her remote location, her name was whispered with awe—and sometimes unease.

Factory and Operations

Her factory specialized in enchanted sweets: candy that could calm nerves, lull one to sleep, or grant brief bursts of joy. These were sold discreetly to wealthy buyers and collectors. Rumors suggested she recruited orphans and wanderers as workers, though few ever visited twice.

Spoiler Section – Hidden Truth

Show spoiler
Nerrisa was, in truth, a hag named Nisrilla—a variant of night hag with a twisted obsession for children, magic, and sweet confections. Her candy factory was a facade for dark rituals, child enslavement, and the siphoning of youth and dreams to empower her.   She was once a servant of Zyrralyth the Mire Sovereign, a black dragon who ruled much of the Mistmire Swamp. Nerrisa betrayed Zyrralyth, de-powered her, and killed her in a calculated bid for dominion. Her daughter, Zemallali, fled the betrayal with a few loyal followers and now hides in the swamp, too young and inexperienced to challenge Nerrisa alone.   Before she was revealed, Nerrisa was approached by Emberosa, a dragonborn from Beech Sadak, who sought help dealing with a black dragon menace. Pretending to be a well-meaning factory owner, Nerrisa offered to find help and later employed outsiders to eliminate the threat—framing Zemallali as the danger.   When Nerrisa was finally defeated, her death dispelled much of the magic binding her factory. Constructed servants collapsed, and many of the children she had trapped in her dreamlike rituals fell unconscious. Though rescued, several fell into comas, their minds still tangled in lingering enchantments.   Even now, the Mistmire carries echoes of her power. Traces of illusion and corruption remain, and some fear that not all of her influence has been purged. The fate of every child exposed to her sweets remains uncertain, and strange rumors continue to drift from the deeper swamps.
