Nisrilla

Nisrilla, the Candy Hag

Overview

Nisrilla is a twisted creature of sweet scent and sinister purpose—a night hag variant known as a Candy Hag. Her presence once haunted the outskirts of the Mistmire Swamp, where she lured children and travelers into her factory of confectionery horror.   Though few knew her true name, tales whispered of a bog-witch who sweetened her surroundings with unnatural allure—gingerbread walls, singing toys, and caramel laughter concealing a deep hunger for pain and transformation.   She was once a trusted servant of Zyrralyth the Mire Sovereign, the black dragon matriarch who ruled the swamp. Nisrilla approached Zyrralyth offering power and alliance, but ultimately betrayed her—de-powering and killing her in secret. This act allowed Nisrilla to seize control of the Mistmire, replacing the dragon's influence with her own dark domain.   Zyrralyth's daughter, Zemallali, fled the betrayal with a few loyal followers. Too young and inexperienced to challenge Nisrilla directly, she sought to survive in secrecy. Nisrilla, meanwhile, disguised herself under the false persona of Lady Narrisa Ravencroft, a glamorous tiefling factory owner. In this guise, she deceived travelers—including Emberosa of Beech Sadak and the Outsiders—manipulating them to eliminate Zemallali under false pretenses.   Her demise came when the Outsiders uncovered her truth and ended her reign of sugar-laced terror.

Nature and Powers

Unlike her night hag kin who favored nightmares and soul-trafficking, Nisrilla specialized in illusion magic and flesh-altering enchantments. She turned living beings into sweets, animated candy into guardians, and enchanted her domain to evoke joy and nostalgia—all while hiding monstrous cruelty beneath the surface.   She maintained a magic-infused necklace made from crystallized sugar-glass—possibly acting as a phylactery or power reservoir.   Children fell asleep in her presence, lulled by false lullabies. Those who wandered too far were reshaped into candy constructs or imprisoned in gingerbread coffins.

Death and Legacy

When Nisrilla was finally defeated, her death dispelled much of the magic binding her factory. Constructed servants collapsed, and many of the children she had trapped in her dreamlike rituals fell unconscious. Though rescued, several fell into comas, their minds still tangled in lingering enchantments.   Even now, the Mistmire carries echoes of her power. Traces of illusion and corruption remain, and some fear that not all of her influence has been purged. The fate of every child exposed to her sweets remains uncertain, and strange rumors continue to drift from the deeper swamps.   Some believe Nisrilla was once a mortal woman corrupted by a pact with Thaladrin . Others suggest she was a hag born from grief and gluttony—an echo of fairy tales made manifest. Her name remains a warning in Mistmire folklore.   Hidden Identity: Nisrilla previously operated under the false persona of Narrisa Ravencroft, a charming tiefling businesswoman known for her factory and musical charm. Few knew her dual nature, and none who found out lived to tell of it—until the Outsiders revealed her truth.

In the Eyes of the Fey

Some fey, especially darker archfey aligned with greed or indulgence, saw Nisrilla as a minor yet amusing player in the mortal world. She fashioned herself a dealer in joy, albeit through torment—her candy-coated cruelty seen as a twisted kind of art.
