The Children of Drakhalos

Dragons are ancient, awe-inspiring creatures believed to be the first children of Drakhalos, the Keeper of Scales. Known for their immense power, intelligence, and mystical connection to the world, dragons have shaped the history and myths of Wakodia. These majestic beings are divided into two primary species: Metallic Dragons and Chromatic Dragons.

Physical Characteristics

  • Appearance: Dragons are massive, reptilian creatures with scales that shimmer with a metallic sheen or vivid hues, depending on their lineage. They have powerful wings, sharp claws, and long tails.
  • Lifespan: Dragons are effectively immortal, growing larger and more powerful with age. They are divided into stages such as Wyrmling, Young Dragon, Adult Dragon, and Ancient Dragon.
  • Height and Build: Dragons range from the size of a large horse in their youth to towering behemoths in their ancient years. Each stage reflects a significant growth in both physical and magical might.

SubSpecies

  • Metallic Dragons: Known for their noble nature and alignment with law and justice, these dragons include Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, and Brass. They serve as protectors and guides to mortals.
  • Chromatic Dragons: Once noble defenders, they were corrupted by the Betrayer Gods during the Arcane Cataclysm. These dragons—Red, Blue, Green, Black, and White—are now infamous for their destructive and tyrannical tendencies.

Mythology & Lore

  • The Scales of Creation: Drakhalos forged the dragons to maintain balance in Wakodia, with metallic dragons embodying justice and chromatic dragons representing the primal forces of the world.
  • The Arcane Cataclysm: During this cataclysmic event, the chromatic dragons were sent to aid mortals in their fight against the Betrayer Gods. However, they were corrupted, severing their bond with Drakhalos and turning them into agents of chaos.
  • The Eternal Vigil: Metallic dragons remained behind, protecting Drakhalos and upholding his divine will as guardians of balance.

Behavior and Society

Dragons are fiercely independent creatures, with their behavior largely influenced by their lineage. Metallic dragons often form alliances with mortals, serving as advisors or protectors, while chromatic dragons dominate and destroy, reveling in their power. Both species, however, are territorial and covetous, often hoarding treasures as symbols of their might.

Role in History

Dragons have played pivotal roles in Wakodia's history. From the Arcane Cataclysm to the founding of great kingdoms, their influence can be seen across the ages. Metallic dragons are celebrated as heroes and guides, while chromatic dragons are remembered as terrors that scarred the land.

Relationships with Other Species

  • Mortals: Dragons inspire both fear and reverence among mortals. While metallic dragons often form bonds with mortals, chromatic dragons see them as pawns or prey.
  • Dragonborn: Created as an offshoot of dragonkind, dragonborn share a deep, spiritual connection to their draconic ancestors. They are often seen as extensions of a dragon’s will.
  • Other Dragons: Relations between metallic and chromatic dragons are fraught with hostility, shaped by their opposing alignments and Drakhalos’s sorrow over the chromatics' corruption.

Legacy

Dragons remain one of the most influential and enigmatic species in Wakodia. Their ancient wisdom and unmatched power have shaped the course of history, leaving an indelible mark on the world. Whether as protectors or destroyers, dragons are beings of immense significance, tied irrevocably to the fate of Wakodia.
