Ascendant God
Planar Demigods, Once Mortal
Ascendant gods are demigods that were once mortal, and achieved demigodhood (often unintentionally) through the assimilation of large amounts of divine Quintessence. This is most often due to the individual being worshipped (in which case they achieve demigodhood gradually over time), though sometimes may occur due to rapid absorption of a river or reservoir of divine quintessence. The former type of Ascendant is much more numerous, both because the means is more common and the gradualness of their awakening makes them better able to cope with the change, manage their power sustainably and not tip any balances that would antagonize more powerful beings.
Features
Ascendant demigods are strongly tied to their home planes; though they may travel offplane and indeed retain whatever power they held as mortals, their divine abilities wane the farther they get from the plane they ascended in.
One is said to be able to detect an Ascendant being by perceiving their "Halation": reality is said to warp strangely about their heads, but in a way that we can only see out of the corner of our eyes.
