Renelle Vernador, or Ren for short, is half-elven princess from North Cassel. she is a Knight of the Order of the Phoenix. For years now, she has been doing mercenary work far and wide, ignoring the troubles plaguing Cassel. With her martial skill and supreme control over fire magic, she is like a force of nature on the battlefield. Ren doesn't want anything to do with her homeland, but the schism between men and elves is quickly coming to a crisis and there are few others more able to solve the issue than someone born of both.
Personality
Ren was initially an outgoing and energetic girl when she was young and lived in a human kingdom. When she started to live among the elves and she experienced just how terrible some people can be, she became more closed off, reserved, and skeptical of others, especially elves, to the point that she is outright hateful at times.
Currently, Ren can be best described as kind and loyal to her friends. Everyone else she is straightforward and indifferent towards until she knows their motives. She still doesn't care for the elves that much because most elves still have a problem with half-elves even existing. And with the exception of her little sibling Vyerin, she doesn't care for her family, seeing them as fools playing political games with each other.
Physical description
Ren has the thin, graceful appearance of an elf but radiates the defiant confidence of any human. Like many Casselian women, she keeps her hair in a loose braid. Whenever she casts fire magic, her hair glows and seems to flicker like fire. She can stare down anyone with her piercing blue eyes. Her ears are short and pointed, quite a drastic difference from her mother's long, leaf shaped ears. Ren is considered beautiful by human standards, but by elven standards, the delicate scar over her right eye ruins her appearance for many.
Ren's clothing and armor is often quite dull compared to the flashy armors that other knights wear. She doesn't like the elegant gowns and intricate banded armors of the elves, and would rather have much plainer human clothing. She owns several sets of plate armor, but when traveling she normally wears a leather vest and steel shoulder armor. The leather is made from the hide of feral drakes making it similar in strength to steel armors, though its durability is lower and will take much fewer hits. Ren also owns quite a unique skycloak, but usually doesn't use it when traveling.

Equipment
Having been a successful knight and mercenary for the last nine years, Ren has acquired many different unique weapons and armors. Some of her most notable items are listed below, but she is said to have an entire arsenal stored at Château des Vagabonds in the Barony of Orthez, enough to equip a small army.
Rose of Cassel
Also called the Castle Rose. This legendary sword was given to Renelle by her aunt Laura. It is made of Ruby Gemsteel, allowing Ren to cast extremely powerful fire magic through the blade itself. It was easily her most used weapon, but she lost the sword a few years ago when she tried to invade South Cassel and take vengeance for the death of her father.
Kren Aurdel
This heavy bronze dagger is rare on the surface of Vreathe, but quite common in the underworld of Feylisa. The dagger has several enchantments that draw melee and ranged weapong to the blade, deflecting all but the most powerful blows. Ren gave this dagger to Vyerin several years ago.Drakehide Armor
Ren has had multiple sets of this armor made over the years. It protects as well as heavier plate armor, but being made of leather, it won't take nearly as many hits before falling apart. Ren has collected hides from slain drakes for years and she has collected a seemingly infinite supply of their hides to turn into armor.
Sky Cloak
Ren's prized possession. She recieved this cloak from a Therian named Ithonida during the time that she was in Feylisa. This cloak literally reflects a small portion of the night sky, accurately showing the placement of the planets and stars. The exact mechanism of this enchantment is unknown as there are no obvious aethercite crystals or markings on the cloak.
The fabric is indestructible and immune to Ren's fire magic, so wearing it doesn't prevent her from going all-out. It can be used to easily hide from elevated positions, but otherwise the cloak doesn't actually have an advantage on the battlefield.
Old Sword
Ren's current weapon of choice is a little old and beat up. It isn't a sword of legend nor is it even a special gemsteel sword. No Aethercite crystals adorn the blade. It's just a plain longsword. Using magic weapons hasn't felt right for Ren since an incident she caused a few years ago...Rose of Cassel

Brenon Vernador
Deceased King of Verdina and Ren's Father. When Brenon had to end his marriage with Eryka, his children Ren, isabel, and Arden were sent away. It was something he always regretted, but he was the ruler of a human kingdom, and the laws of Saint Nora must be followed. When Ren returned to Verdina, it was far too short a time, as only a few months later Brenon was assassinated.
"... I should've spent the last eight years searching for your killers, but instead I keep taking jobs that take me far from Cassel, to other lands and even other worlds... heh, I don't know anymore which of us is your worst child. We're all terrible!"
- Ren
Aria Eryka
Queen of the Elf-Kingdom of Lyonne and Ren's mother. Eryka is an ambitious elf. Taking advantage of her connections within the rest of of Cassel, she became the youngest Queen of Lyonne ever elected at the age of 420. Her ambitions are all that matters, and even her children are pawns to her. Because of this, Ren hates her mother more than anyone except maybe Eldon.
"Ambitious, conniving, petty, shrewed, I could go on. I don't know what Isabel sees in mother. There is not a single thing about her that I would consider pleasant. The only nice thing I can say for sure is that under that golden raiment, under that forever regal fascade, somehow there was a woman that once loved my father."
- Ren
Isabel Vernador
Ren's twin sister. Isabel was the opposite of Ren in many ways growing up. She was fine being her mother's political pawn and later became the queen of Ordland because of it. One other significant way she is the opposite to her sister is in her mastery of water magic, which Isabel did on purpose. The two currently aren't on speaking terms because of their mother.
"Sometimes I wish Arden were right, that our mother's manipulations put me at odds with Isabel, but, I have always hated the way she thought herself superior to us, fully embracing her Elven side. I suppose I do still care about her though. I should visit her sometime... but, not right now!"
- Ren
Arden Vernador
Ren's younger brother. Arden and Ren fought quite a bit growing up. While it appears they hate each other, they just prefer solving their disagreements with a fight instead of words. At least until a few years ago, now the two won't talk to eachother because of an incident in Wrethilin.
"...What would I even say to my brother if I saw him again? Our last fight was too destructive..."
- Ren
Saya Diaz (Vyerin)
Ren's younger sister. After Brenon was assassinated, Saya ran away and it took Ren several years to find her. Saya has been in a dark place for years now, with guilt over what she did driving her past her breaking point, pushing away her family and identity. Ren gave up trying to bring her back, but makes it a point to track her down and check on her every year or so.
"Every year when I track down Vyerin, they seem to have a different appearance, but this 'Saya' form seems to be sticking. I suppose this would be cause for celebration, that Vyerin finally found herself! But, she hasn't. She's still running away, from too many things to properly list here..."
- Ren
Marla Vernador
Ren's youngest sister. Due to succession rules and Vyerin's disappearance, Marla was made queen of Verdina at the age of 8, and Eldon was made Regent. Several years later, Marla was killed by Eldon and the Kingdom of North Cassel was fully absorbed into the South. News of this death threw Ren into a rage, causing her to raise an army to avenge Marla's death.
"And what did me ignoring my father's killers and staying far away from Cassel accomplish? Nothing. I killed vampire lords, stood toe-to-toe with dragons, even fought a god and walked away, but I wasn't there to protect my frail sister from a simple human army led by a petty king..."
- Ren
Eldon Vernador
Ren's Uncle. Ren thinks Eldon is a coward, a tyrant, and an all around terrible excuse for a king. She does not fully believe Eldon was involved in her father's death, but she cannot forgive him for getting Marla killed.
"And this is the petty king in question, a pathetic shadow of his former self. My uncle was once a great warrior prince, leading Cassel's armies to victory across Eastern Vreathe. But as a king? The country is in a worse state than it has ever been under his leadership..."
- Ren
Larielle Vernador
Former Queen of West Cassel. Laura was a rebellious girl when she crowned Queen at the age of 13 and forced into a cage of luxury and politics. A little later in life Laura spent some time looking after Ren, who was also somewhat rebellious and running away from a cage of her own.
"And where are you? Why did you give up your crown and allow Eldon to take West Cassel? You were loved by the people of Baileon and you gave it all up! I wish I knew what you were thinking..."
- Ren
Aerynn Vernador
Ren's cousin. Ren thinks the girl is a fool for trusting her father as much as she does. Ren still feels regret over burning Aerynn the way she did, and is unaware that Aerynn was blessed by a fairy and doesn't have a single burn scar on her body from that incident.
"Aerynn believes in that bastard father of hers, so much so that she let herself get fried in his place...Foolish girl!

"After the incident in Wrethilin I tried to make my way back to the Realm of Feylisa. I needed to see Ithonida again. When I entered the cavern entrance in the Olimian Wastes, I ended lost on the branches of Meliheal for two weeks instead... Did I really lose my way that badly?"
- Ren
Jacare
Jacare was a sailor for the Horosha Explorer's Guild and joined a year before Ren did, so the two have known each other for quite a while. Recently Jacare has taken up being a Privateer for the Kingdom of Ledo. Ren hires him to to take her between Vreathe's mainland and the island kingdoms. Jacare is one of the only full-elves that Ren trusts.
"Is it really that funny that the only two full elves I trust are a pirate and a thief? Jacare and Phoebe might be dishonest for a quick piece of gold, but they aren't liars when it counts! Compare to all other full-elves who never say what they mean and ALWAYS have an ulterior motive when they need you!"
- Ren
Lucia
After Lucia and Ren fought during the Contest of Champions of 2983 I.A, they became close friends and worked together on numerous mercenary contracts in the years since. Ren also helped Lucia hunt down her former master, Acutis Sanguinor, and she is one of the only people that knows Lucia is corrupted with blood magic.
"So, interesting thing about Lucia that she doesn't mention often... she actually has a husband and a five year-old son. I tried convincing her to settle down and be with her family more often, since some of our missions literally take us to other worlds for months at a time. She says she will only stop the knight life if I stop, which... yeah, that isn't happening anytime soon!"

Ametista
Ametista is a halfling and the leader of a thieves guild composed of other halflings and children of various races. They met shortly after Ren ran away from Lyonne and ended up in Tesiadem. Ametista is the only other full-elf that Ren trusts. Ren even knows her real name.
"I haven't seen Phoebe in about six years. I wonder if she grew up yet, or if she's still stuck as a halfling..."
- Ren
Mirielle
Mirielle is a Half-Elf from Rosika, and a Warden of the Lions. She is often one of the only wardens that work with the human knightly orders. Ren met her in the Barony of Palma shortly after she became a knight. Mirielle helped Ren and her knights defeat Baron Matias Romero and end a conflict there. The two have been friends since.
"Mirielle is an excellent spellcaster but she is quite awful in melee combat! I've had to rescue her more times than I care to count. Her Crystal Magic is quite unique however and we tend to work well together. I just wish she would stop talking about her boyfriends and stop pestering me about never having one..."
- Ren
Blaise
A human archivist and researcher with the College of Cassel. He often does field work in far off lands and sometimes ancient ruins across Cassel. He isn't a fighter so often hires mercenaries to protect him. Ren has a tendency to accept jobs from Blaise. The two have been spotted together even when there is no job, but the two claim there is nothing going on between them.

History
Early Life
Renelle Vernador was born with her twin Isabel in Marsan in the year 2966 I.A.. Their births and the later birth of their brother Arden caused some controversy in Cassel because they are half-elves. They weren't the first half-elven Vernadors, but by edict of of Saint Nora, Elves were not allowed to rule human kingdoms and human kings could not wed an Elf. Their human father, Brenon Vernador, didn't really care about such things since he was second in line to the throne anyways. Their elven mother Eryka did care about such things, but from an elven point of view. Her two daughters could be used to rule an elven kingdom some day.
Growing up, Ren's sister Isabel dreamed of her life as a princess and queen, living in a large fantastical palace, and having a kingdom of her own. Ren did not. Being in charge of a kingdom seemed tedious. The politics of the world around her was boring and she was always more interested in literally anything else. She spent more time playing pretend at being a knight and fighting with her brother. Their days back then were simple and carefree.
When Ren was 8, her grandfather Vernador XX suddenly split Cassel into three kingdoms and gave the northern kingdom of Verdina to Ren's father. In order to be king, Brenon was forced to break his marriage with Eryka and took a new wife, Maria of Galleska. Eryka didn't fight this, and instead went to her homeland, the Elf-Kingdom of Lyonne just to the north. She took Ren, Isabel, and Arden with her. Ren didn't care at first. She was never going to be a future monarch anyways. She quickly learned that things were different in Elven lands compared to human ones.
The full-blooded Elves of Lyonne looked down on her half-elven heritage. Ren was defiant against these Elves, but then she became the target of hate. Ren would fight back, but having weaker magic, ended up losing often. Isabel on the other hand, was treated quite well, but only because she pretended to be inferior to the Elves around her.
Ren had been practicing magic since she was very young, but she started to lose interest because the Elves were way stronger than she was, at least until she heard of a way to increase her power. She secretly subjected herself to her own magic, which would create Magic Scars across her body, but would also greatly powerup her magic. she was basically burning herself in specific patterns. By the time she was 12, she had dozens of scar-lines running down her back and front, all glowing red signifying her affinity for fire magic. Eryka eventually discovered her daughter's magic scars and was going to have special enchanted tattoos put on Ren's hands, sealing her magic.
Extremely bitter about everything that has been happening to her, Ren ran away when she was 13, the day before her magic was to be sealed. A few weeks later, she ended up in the Barony of Mataro, and in the shining city of Tesiadem, where her aunt was queen of West Cassel. Laura took Ren in. She wrote to Eryka about Ren and thought it would be best if Ren stayed away for now. Eryka agreed and allowed her 'useless' daughter to stay there.
Here Ren met two full-elves, a young sailor named Jacare and a halfling named Ametista. Not all elves were hateful towards half-elves, but Ren was still bitter about the Elves of Lyonne. She wanted a way to prove she was better than they were. Ren started researching ways and learned of the Dragon Riders of the old days. They would go into The Olimian wastes and steal a dragon egg, gaining a powerful companion and weapon of war. Ren started planning for a way into the desert to get one of these eggs.
When Ren was 15 she joined the Horosha Explorer's Guild. This organization specializes in charting the vast Olimian Wastes and bringing back artifacts and aethercite crystals for sale. It was started by a man from Tensen centuries ago, and the guildmaster is a Tensenite. Ren wasn't allowed to go on an expedition herself until she was 16.

The Olimian Desert Expedition
When Ren turned 16, she signed up for a dangerous expedition into The Olimian wastes. The primary goal was to reach the ancient city of Tenali and gather the riches there. On the way, Ren did sucessfully retrieve a dragon egg. A few days later, the Expedition was attacked by the city's Crystal Guardians and Ren was separated from the expedition. Hungry, tired, alone, and ready to accept death, she decided to return the dragon egg, fully expecting to be eaten. The dragon instead lead Ren through the twisting roots of Meliheal to the Realm of Feylisa and offered her a chance at life instead.
The Realm of Feylisa
Ren spent an entire year in this otherworldly realm. Ithonida taught her many concepts about magic that the surface world only had tiny bits and pieces of. It was here that Ren was gifted the skycloak, and the gilded dagger. While on this other world, Ren explored the rusted ruins of Skyfortress Aries and learned what the nameless horrors were. She also learned about the secret of Segra, the Mother of Dragons. When Ithonida thought Ren was ready, she lead her back to the surface world, to the Loralkas Crater. She then left back to Feylisa and was never seen on Vreathe again.
The Tournament of Champions ((Of 2984))
Every two years, a great tournament is held among the human and elven nations of Eastern Vreathe to determine who the strongest warrior is among them. Knights and Wardens from all the orders join. Ren wanted to join, but needed a sponsor, which meant she had to join a knightly order. She travelled to Northern Verdina to the Red Towers, to the HQ of the Phoenix Knights and demanded to join. After a duel, Commander Moore allowed her to join and represent the Phoenix Knights at the tournament in individual combat. Ren fought hard and eventually won, though her victory felt empty and hollow...
The Death of King Brenon
The assassination of the king of Verdina, Ren's father, had far reaching effects and consqeuences. The King and Queen were dead. the heir to the throne Vyerin was missing. The youngest child of Brenon, Marla, was crowned Queen with King Eldon of Alluviane stepping in as Regent. Everyone thinks Eldon ordered the assassination, including Ren, but starting a war right now would have destroyed the country. Ren instead went to her personal stronghold, gifted to her by Brenon before he died, Château des Vagabonds in Orthez. There she found Vyerin of all people hiding there.
The Vampires of Yurrimkil
Ren took Vyerin to the Elf-Kingdom of Lyonne to figure out what to do with him. It was determined that his life was in danger if he stayed in Cassel, so he was sent to Galleska to live with Arden and his uncle. With him out of the way, Ren wanted nothing to do with the other issues in Cassel, so she went to Yurrimkil, an island kingdom to the north. She spent two years there, doing mercenary contracts, hunting monsters, and uncovering a widespread vampire conspiracy that almost summoned Lithane to Vreathe which would have caused a global war. Ren was able to stop that from happening with the help of several friends and knights.
The Invasion of Alluviane
Verdina was invaded by Eldon's armies and Marla was reportedly killed. Ren didn't care about consequences at this point. She raised an army and sent out a call for other knights to help her. Her brother Arden joined her. There was relatively little fighting leading up to the Mesa City of Wrethilin. Ren and Arden went to confront their Uncle, but after Eldon spoke to them and told them the truth, they disagreed about what to do. Ren wanted to kill Eldon, but Arden disagreed. They fought, sending magic all over the place until their cousin Aerynn was hit by Ren. This caused Ren to drop her sword, the Castle Rose, and leave.
Renelle the Wanderer
After Ren left the Mesa City, she spent three years wandering around Western Alluviane and Northeastern Baileon, without purpose or cause. She drank at whatever local tavern she ended up at and did mercenary work for money. Sometimes she was called in by the Phoenix Knights for a job but they were all relatively minor. This was easily the low point in Ren's life. She even tried to go back to Feylisa but failed to find her path. Her friends kept her somewhat anchored to reality, but she seemed lost for a time. This isn't say she didn't do any good during this time. Central Cassel is pretty much monster free right now thanks to her.
The Izi Expedition
It started when a Fire Elf passed through the lava portal in the Red Towers region, afflicted with a mysterious condition known as Frostrot. Ren was called in to use her powerful fire magic to incinerate the body. After that incident was handled, the knights of Vreathe ordered an expedition to The Moon Izi to find the source of this condition and destroy it. Ren was chosen as one of the field commanders to lead the expedition. The expedition was completed successfully, but something also happened to Ren while she was there. She passed the threshold between life and death and as a Vernador, spoke to Saint Nora.
Where is Ren now?
When Ren got back from Izi, she recieved a letter from her twin Isabel. Isabel was going to have an audience with the Sea Elves and wanted Ren to come with her. Ren figured that out of anyone in their disfunctional family, she could at least speak to her sister. She travelled to her stronghold in Orthez to prepare. When spring came in a few months, she was to travel to Terminus, and meet with Isabel there.
When Ren got to her stronghold, she found that several people were staying there. Ren was quite surprised to find Vyerin was there, in her Saya form. The two spent the next few weeks catching up on the last few years. Ren left out the part where she invaded Alluviane, but Saya left out some details about her recent past too.
Ren asked Saya what she was doing back in Verdina? Was she ready to retake the kingdom? Saya flatly said no, that she isn't worthy of such a thing, not after their father's death. This did annoy Ren a little, especially considering the current state of the kingdom, but she was just glad that Saya was alright more than anything else.
Ren did challenge Saya to a fight to see where her abilities were at. Ren easily won that, but was satisfied that Saya could protect herself. When spring came and Saya left, Ren gifted her the Kren Aurdel. Ren then spent the next few days preparing for her journey to Terminus before leaving. Renelle is currently on the road somewhere in Northern Verdina.
