  On Voracia, the stipend system is a fundamental pillar of their socialistic economy. Every citizen, upon reaching adulthood at age 26, receives a monthly stipend which covers basic necessities including housing, food, education, health, and even recreational activities. The amount is calibrated to ensure a comfortable living standard for all, nearly eliminating extreme poverty.  

Benefits of the Stipend System:

  Universal Welfare: No citizen goes without basic necessities, ensuring a higher standard of living and general well-being.   Reduced Economic Stress: With basic needs covered, individuals can pursue interests, education, or jobs without the pressure of financial survival.   Promotion of Arts and Science: Free from immediate economic constraints, many are encouraged to delve into arts, research, and other fields that might not always be lucrative.   Stability: The stipend system provides a steady economy, reducing fluctuations and uncertainties.  

Limitations of the Stipend System:

  Limited Luxury: While the stipend covers basic needs and some recreational activities, luxury items or experiences are outside its scope. Those desiring more than the basics must seek additional income.   Risk of Complacency: With essential needs covered, some individuals might lack the motivation to pursue further professional or personal growth.   Reliance on Automation: The system relies on Voracia's rich resources which are largely gathered through automated systems governed by an advanced Artificial Intelligence. System malfunctions or resource depletion could strain the economy and be felt by all.   Dependency: Heavy reliance on the stipend can lead to issues if there were ever interruptions or changes to the system.   BSI Requirement: Anyone who wants to receive a stipend must also receive a Brainstem Interface for no cost. Even though it is safe and freely available to everyone including children (with a guardian's consent), some choose not to get one. These people are known as Humanity Purists, and make up the largest portion of impoverished people on Voracia.
