The Humanity Purists

A Beacon of Tradition in a World of Progress

 

Philosophy and Beliefs:

The Humanity Purists hold a deep-rooted belief in the sanctity and essence of unaltered human existence. They view the Brainstem Interface (BSI) as an intrusion into the natural order, a technology that dilutes the genuine human experience. For them, the core of humanity lies in its struggles, emotions, and organic experiences, which they believe get overshadowed by technological enhancements.  

Lifestyle:

Choosing to live without the BSI means a life without the immediate conveniences and societal benefits it brings. This decision pushes many Purists to the fringes of Voracian society. While some end up homeless in the streets of Voracity, many choose to form close-knit communities on the city's outskirts or in remote regions of Voracia. These communities often function with rudimentary technology, reminiscent of a time on Old Earth before the advent of advanced digital interfaces or Plasteel.  

Economic Struggles:

Devoid of The Stipend System, many Purists engage in manual labor or trade, relying on barter systems within their communities. They grow their own food, make their own clothes, and construct shelter using traditional methods. However, their economic isolation makes them vulnerable, with limited access to Voracia's healthcare, education, and other state-provided amenities.  

Perception and Discrimination:

The broader Voracian society, particularly those with BSIs, often perceives the Humanity Purists through a lens of skepticism or even disdain. The term 'Humanity Purist', while worn as a badge of honor by some, is used derogatorily by others, particularly when labeling the homeless who might not necessarily associate with the Purist ideology.  

Internal Dynamics:

Within the Humanity Purist communities, there is a strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Elders pass down stories of Old Earth, emphasizing the importance of preserving human traditions. There's a rich culture of storytelling, music, and art, all serving to reinforce their shared ideology. However, like any community, there are internal debates – some Purists are staunch in their beliefs, while others might be more flexible, often leading to disagreements on the extent of technology to embrace.  

Interaction with The Benefactors:

While The Benefactors have provided a wealth of advancements for Voracia, they maintain a neutral stance toward the Humanity Purists. They respect their choice, even if it means not partaking in the broader societal benefits. However, there's always an underlying tension, with some Purists viewing The Benefactors as manipulators and abusers of the very technology they oppose.   In essence, the Humanity Purists represent a poignant juxtaposition in Voracian society. In a world racing towards the future, they are a steadfast reminder of humanity's roots, highlighting the ongoing struggle between tradition and progress.
