“No thread is pulled without consequence.”
Fatumantia is the art of fate manipulation—pulling on the threads of destiny to influence events, often at a cost. Its users do not predict what will happen; they change what could. The magic is subtle, strange, and dangerous, as each adjustment sends ripples across the tapestry of reality.
Origins & Traditions
Once considered a sacred offshoot of Hermetic magic, Fatumantia slowly diverged from ritualistic origins into a more intuitive practice. The earliest known practitioners were mystics and wanderers who claimed to hear the "hum of fate" in silence. Today, it exists on the fringes of both academia and folk magic.
Manifestation Tiers
The Fortunate (Fatumatici Fortunati)
Individuals whose lives are shaped by passive fate alignment. They appear to always land on their feet, though often seem clumsy or foolish. Their luck is unconscious and unpredictable.
The Manipulator (Fatumarii)
Can sense and influence small threads of fate consciously. Altering outcomes has consequences; a blessing may incur a curse.
The Fateweaver (Fatumantes / Aranea Fati)
Can manipulate large strands of fate, even on national or historical scales. Their work is precise, dangerous, and always exacts a toll.
Practice & Limitations
- Active manipulation requires intense focus and mental clarity.
- Small changes are easier to enact; larger ones become exponentially more volatile.
- Fate manipulation always draws a price—whether immediate, delayed, or redirected.
Signs & Symptoms

- Manipulators may feel the backlash often physically (e.g. nausea, sudden injuries, vertigo).
Drawbacks & Risks
- Every manipulation rebounds—what is given must be taken elsewhere.
- The greater the manipulation, the greater the backlash.
- Fortunates are often clumsy or forgetful
- Manipulatros experience oft a physica backlash or one the is not nessary as big as the manipulation.
- The backlash of Fateweavers are often as big as the new Weave but it could divert from the weaver to someone or something else.
Cultural Reception
- Treated with deep suspicion by most magical authorities.
- Folk cultures regard Fatumancers as lucky charms or dangerous omens.
- The Department of Esoteric Affairs classifies Fatumantia as a high-risk discipline requiring monitoring and restriction.
