Ranios the Fractured
Ranios is known to be quite prone to mood swings. At times, he is in a very jovial, mischievous mood. Other times, he lives in a state of depression, letting his doubts consume him. Because of this, the realms of the Court of Joy and the Court of Sorrow are intertwined, acting as mirrors of each other and the material plane. Because Ranios always viewed the world of the Founders through these skewed lenses, these views eventually became real, leading to the creation of the twin realms as he fought with the world's creators.
Each realm acts completely differently, but neither one has the best interests of mortals at heart. Ranios's view of mortals was skewed just like everything else, so the Joywoods try to trick them into dangerous situations by hiding behind a mask of friendliness and joviality, while the Sorrowmount tries to endanger mortals by plaguing them with self-doubt and negativity. Ranios is a troubled soul who is often blamed for emotional or mental problems that afflict mortals. Ranios is said to be found in either of his realms, hidden away in their deepest reaches. When a part of the material plane is struck by strong positive or negative emotions, it is said that Ranios and some of his creations are never far away, manifesting the realities of his realms within the real world.
Ranios is typically depicted as two figures facing in opposite directions, one cheerful and expressive, the other remorseful and downtrodden.

Personal history
Ranios is a trickster god. During the war of the founders, he would often play on the emotions of the founders, interfering in their battles to further his own ends. This caused a lot of resentment between himself and the other gods, who tried to oust him from the world. Taking advantage of the situation once again, he tricked them into making him a new realm, something he had hoped for all along. This realm was one he would have full control over to do as he pleased, and he eventually found a way to push back into the primary realm through trees. The beings from his realm came to be known as fey, acting as tricky and cunning as Ranios himself.
The founders largely ignore his incursions into their realm, since he is trapped beyond and cannot himself enter. His influence persisted in this way until the events of the Battle of Burlakris (See The Shattering of Ranios). Since then, his realm, and its influences in the world, have been torn apart, certain regions growing drastically different.
