The Crusades

The Crusades were a series of killings and persecutions committed by the Humans against the Elven people. The Crusades hold a profound effect shaped both Elven and human politics to this day.

The Conflict

Prelude

Anti-Elven sentiments were in effect long before the Crusades even began. Before the Crusades, Elves were in large mercenary clans that offered their services as guides and fighters for private armies. Many Elven clans fought alongside the three great Kingdoms of man, but while they were pivotal in claiming several victories, their loyalty only ever went as far as the gold took them.   Their long lifespan also later lead to humans developing a stigma that Elves would one day replace them through their long lifespans; outlasting the minuscule life of a human so that they could one day replace mankind entirely with their species. This fuelled the Mordencrast Conspiracy; an event where Noblemen demanded the Elves grant them immortality.   With the only option being persecution at the time, older Elven tribes consulted their wisest elders to grant mankind a shared long life; this, however, backfired. Mankind's desire for immortality twisted itself to Vampirism.   Elves were subsequently blamed for plaguing humanity with this disease, and the Church rallied men and women abroad to begin a crusade in protecting their Holy Land.

Aftermath

Elven Diaspora

Elves scattered across the world and later adapted into separate ethnicities based upon their environment. Elves, being incredibly adaptive, splintered into separate cultures lead by different people. Few Elves remained in Tregaron; most of their tribes went to the far frozen reaches of Vilstrung, where humans rarely dared to tread.

Separation of the Church

The Church of Aine lost its hold on humans in Tregaron; with most governing powers being found within the Huntsman's Court after the war. Most of the Church now lives in Llyne.

Separation of the Vanks

The Vank people are often viewed with as much derision as the Elves due to their open acceptance of vampirism and active effort in aiding Elves during the war. Their Church, already known for its distinct method of worship, eventually fractured and lead to the creation of the Sixth Church of Aine.
