The Banshee Queen
Ceana is the
Banshee Queen, Lady of the Slain, and the Wild God of mourning and departed dead.
She is a widely respected Wild God across multiple pantheons, and is observed even in several human traditions as a benevolent entity that offers respite from a tragic passing.
Ceana represents the dead and the departed. She is a shepherd that helps guide mortals to finding a proper grave for their loved ones -- or a dignified resting space for those that die unburied.
Depiction & Symbolism
Ceana is an old, elderly woman that is dressed in tattered robes that are stained in so much blood that they're dyed a permanent red, no matter how much she washes at them. She is hunchbacked, old, and gnarled with callouses and crooked limbs. Her simple appearance is a far cry from what one would expect from a Wild God;
She is said to ceaselessly scrub the blood and grime off the unburied. She seeks out sights of war with a bucket and basket in hand. Corpses are cleaned of all blood, bandaged of all wounds, and dressed in fine suits so that they may find their final rest in dignity.
For dignity is the one thing that all dead things should be granted.
Holy Symbol
Ceana's symbol is a bristled brush in a bowl. A droplet rests above the bowl, symbolising washed blood or mourning tears.
Combs made of white bone are the sacred tool to Ceana; her faith use them for funeral rights and ceremonial headwear.
Worship
Ceana is popular across the world; especially with the
Elven diaspora.
In lieu of temples, it isn't uncommon for cemetaries or graves to bear offerings to Ceana in the form of honey or wine, or leave handmade combs over headstones as gifts for the banshees that guided them to their resting place.
