Sulian

High Priest

Hierophant of Corellon’s Hall of Seven Vows, Düalarn (Clan Sherendyl)

Sulian presides over the largest temple of Corellon Larethian in the Sherendyl heartlands. In the lakeside capital of Düalarn, the Hidden Fortress, his airy, silver-and-gold-chased oak halls shelter both worship and war-readiness: beneath the nave lies a fortified granary and armory sized to equip the Gnarley’s elves for a campaign. Gentle in public and exacting in private, Sulian reads troubling omens—Iuz’s resurgence, Hierarch intrigues, and organized banditry near the forest roads—and quietly urges Las’törla Aerith and fellow clergy to prepare for the worst.

“Art that cannot endure a march is decoration. Corellon asks for art that stands.”

Appearance & Bearing

Slender and ageless, with pale sun-browned skin, silver-threaded russet hair bound in a coronet braid, and clear green eyes that brighten when he invokes Corellon. He wears a long white-leaf vestment edged in moon-blue silk over travel-ready scale beneath. His voice is calm, measured, and carries across halls without effort.

Roleplay cues: folds hands at the wrist when listening; blesses with two fingers and the thumb; rarely raises his voice—silence does the work.

Offices & Duties

  • High Priest of Corellon’s Hall of Seven Vows (Düalarn): Oversees sacraments, oath-witnessing, investitures of officers, and artists’ guild blessings.
  • Keeper of Stores: Below the temple, Sulian maintains the Armory of Seven Seasons and Nuralin Vaults—sealed by dual-key protocol (priest + quartermaster elder).
  • Strategic Advisor: Sits on Aerith’s inner council; signs readiness audits; coordinates festival rites with inspection days (worship tied to stewardship).
  • Inter-Clan Liaison: Exchanges letters and scryings with priests in Alaeduri and Oakvein, aligning doctrine, signals, and relief plans.

Beliefs & Private Warnings

Publicly, Sulian projects cautionary optimism about neighbors around the western Nyr Dyv: cooperation when possible, firmness at need. Privately, his divinations and courier reports convince him that war will touch the borderlands soon. He counsels: stock the vaults, rotate officers, test bells at night, and teach the young to sing oaths that hold at spear-length.

“Hope is a ration; pack enough, but never mistake it for bread.”

Relationships

  • Las’törla Aerith Sherendyl: Mutual trust. He supports her drills and diplomacy, but urges faster stock rotations and wider ritual training.
  • Azaethus Ilaro: Strategic ally; Sulian provides abjurations and warding rites that let Azaethus shape blast-lanes without scarring the canopy.
  • Ruael Y’kashiral: Respects her resolve; tempers her impatience by insisting on witnessed writs for every seizure on the Forest Road.
  • Meldarin/Enlanefel clergy: Regular exchange of liturgical texts and relief schedules; plans for sanctuary overflow if southern routes fail.

Temple & Underhalls

  • The Seven Vows Nave: Open-raftered hall with leaf-lattice windows; acoustics tuned for chorus and command.
  • Armory of Seven Seasons (sub-level): Standardized kits by season (rain, frost, drought, flood, blight, march, siege racks of bronzewood shields and spear-bundles; sealed oil jars; bow-cord spares.
  • Nuralin Vaults (sub-level): Grain silos, smoked fish caches, herbal draughts; clay tags and leaf-wax seals; tracked like scripture.
  • War-Bell: A wooden bell hung in the crossing; one peal summons muster captains, three peals sanctify a defensive stand.

Personality

  • Ideal: “Beauty and readiness are the same discipline.”
  • Bond: The choristers and quartermasters who keep the hall honest.
  • Flaw: Pessimism masked as prudence—he can underplay political windows that require boldness.

Notable Blessings & Relics

  • Diadem of the First Stroke (wondrous, attunement): +1 to spell save DC for abjuration or light spells; once/day cast dispel magic without slot.
  • Seven-Vows Censer: When swung during a formation blessing, grants allied units advantage on the first Wisdom save vs. fear taken within 1 hour.
  • Scroll-Ark of Arvandor: Holds rotating emergency liturgies (ritual water walk, purify food and drink, ceremony variants for oaths).

Adventure Hooks

  1. The Bell That Shouldn’t Ring: The war-bell peals once at midnight; Sulian asks the party to trace a saboteur in the tunnel loops before dawn.
  2. The Quiet Muster: He tasks the PCs with escorting a hidden grain convoy to a drought-struck hamlet while Dyvers factors probe for stores.
  3. Signs in the Basin: Sulian’s scrying bowl shows cult traffic on the Nyr Dyv road; he wants witnessed names before he pressures Aerith for a preemptive cordon.
  4. Seven Vows, Sixth Key: One vault key goes missing during a festival—recover it without panicking the village or revealing the armory’s scale.

Using Sulian at the Table

  • As Patron: Offers clear objectives paired with logistical support (rations, poultices, sanctified rest).
  • As Moral Compass: Frames choices in terms of oath, stewardship, and readiness—not sentiment.
  • As NPC Anchor: After hard temple delves, a night in Sulian’s hall feels safe, ordered, and restorative—at a price of one honest report.
