Elofaen
Diviner
Elofaen of the Veiled Sight
Watcher of the Woven Threads, Seer of Storm and Stone, Diviner of Clan Fealefel
Where others look to legends or ancient runes for guidance, Elofaen peers directly into the veiled threads of fate. A reclusive but formidable Diviner of the 18th Circle, Elofaen has long been the eyes of Clan Fealefel, her visions shaping strategy, alliances, and defense. Though she lacks Mithloriann's erratic flair, her presence is no less commanding. Elected to the Council of Chief Wizards in 547 CY, she remains a powerful yet reserved influence on the clan's future.
"A thousand futures swirl before me, and most end in fire. But not all. This is why I watch, and why I wait."
Appearance and Bearing
Elofaen's bearing is serene yet glacial. She is tall for a wood elf, with silver-threaded raven hair bound in braided loops and a face more carved than formed—beautiful in its solemnity. Her eyes, clouded like distant rain, seem always on the verge of uncovering hidden truths. She wears robes of starlight grey with edges embroidered in glyphic runes of protection and foresight. Her voice, rarely raised, has the quiet authority of inevitability.
- Pale olive skin with faint traces of starlight across her brow.
- Carries a scrying mirror framed in twilight ironwood.
- Always accompanied by an owl-shaped familiar of crystal and mist.
- Often speaks in soft riddles, veiled omens, or abrupt prophecies.
Role and Reputation
Among the Carael Lon’Taari, Elofaen serves as chief diviner and planar communicator. She spends long hours within the Hall of Timeless Echoes or the secluded Scrying Atrium of her tower in the Twilight Trees, communing with extraplanar powers or gazing into the shifting tapestry of potential futures. Her revelations are measured but potent, and it was her work in the years prior to Emridy Meadows that exposed the growing threat of the Cult of Elemental Evil, convincing the elves to join the Prince's host.
- Primary diviner of Clan Fealefel.
- Expert in extraplanar negotiation and arcane diplomacy.
- Keeper of ancient correspondences with Oakvein and Celene.
- Her scrying has predicted troop movements, elemental surges, and cultic stirrings.
Personality and Relationships
Cold and calculating, Elofaen values clarity and order above all. She believes in preparing for the worst, a trait that makes her appear aloof or even unfeeling. Yet those who know her well understand that this detachment masks deep concern. Her friendships are rare but enduring. She was once a colleague and close confidante of Mithloriann, and though their temperaments differ, they understand one another deeply.
- Cool and rational in counsel, emotionally distant.
- Wary of humans, but more for their recklessness than inherent evil.
- Maintains long friendships through magical communication.
- Occasionally engages with the fey, particularly for omens.
Mithloriann
Though once close friends and arcane collaborators, Elofaen’s relationship with Mîthlorian has frayed over the past century. She was one of the first to notice his erratic behavior returning after his reappointment in 561 CY. She respects his raw power and historical wisdom but worries deeply about the effect his paranoia and bouts of instability have on the unity of the Lon’Taari. While she still holds a quiet fondness for the archmage, she increasingly views herself as the one who must temper or neutralize his more dangerous tendencies. Their conversations are often curt and private.
Sylowyn
Elofaen considers Sylowyn a necessary but unsettling force within the council. While she acknowledges the younger elf’s formidable talents and research into the Fading Lands, she is deeply cautious of her motives—especially given the whispered rumors surrounding Sylowyn’s rise to the Lon’Taari. Elofaen’s preference for transparency in governance puts her at odds with Sylowyn’s penchant for secrets. Despite this tension, they often find themselves working together on shared interests like the planar breaches near Canryell’s Well.
Galaedor
She has a somewhat maternal view of Galaedor, seeing his optimism and diplomatic outlook as admirable but at times naïve. Though she challenges his lenient stance on human alliances, she refrains from undermining him openly and often acts as a counterweight to his proposals within the council. She occasionally offers him subtle mentorship, especially in matters of magical ethics and interplanar foresight.
Nylanthir
Elofaen respects Nylanthir’s fervor and directness, especially in matters of defense and martial preparation. Their relationship is grounded in mutual professional respect, though she is cautious about his tendency toward open confrontation and blunt decision-making. She views his desire to bring the elven clans closer to Celene as a distraction from more immediate threats, but does not openly oppose it. Their alignment on magical defense and extraplanar threats means they often work in tandem—though rarely in harmony.
The Loremasters of Oakvein
Elofaen holds enduring ties to Oakvein and its circle of Loremasters, especially Nemoi, with whom she corresponds frequently. Her past residence there grants her considerable influence in cross-clan scholarly matters. She acts as a bridge between Fealefel’s often-guarded magical knowledge and the more collaborative research efforts emerging from Oakvein, though she is still highly selective about what she shares.
She maintains strong connections with the Loremasters of Oakvein, especially those aligned with Labelas Enoreth, her patron. Her regular correspondence and teleportation visits keep Fealefel well informed of broader Gnarley affairs.
Residence and Practices
Elofaen's sanctum lies within the upper boughs of the Twilight Trees, near the Hall of Timeless Echoes. Her dwelling is modest but heavily warded, featuring windows of moon-crystal that reveal only what she wishes to be seen. She maintains an astral archive—a suspended network of thought-forms and magical documents accessible only to her and her apprentices.
- Resides in a secure high-crowned platform within Durvanai.
- Maintains a planar focus chamber for safe extraplanar scrying.
- Practices daily meditative rituals aligned to celestial movements.
- Hosts apprentices from Celene, the Vesve, and even the Adri.
Importance to the Campaign
Elofaen is a pivotal figure for Dungeon Masters who want to explore mystery, prophecy, or extraplanar politics. Her calm presence and far-reaching vision make her an ideal quest-giver, warning messenger, or interpreter of omens. She may aid the PCs with key information—but always expects discretion, caution, and respect in return.
Potential Campaign Roles:
- Warning of a major ritual or planar breach.
- Seer who reveals secrets about a character's destiny.
- Hidden sponsor of efforts to prevent Temple resurgence.
- High-value political figure targeted by assassins or cultists.
